One more has arrived back at base camp this morning.  He completed the walk but couldn't manage the final pot.  The last two are doing Meregill as I type.  I bet they are knackered too.  What madness ;)

Can someone put these lads in touch with me?  We need some keen young tigers for the Dachstein in a week's time as most of us old duffers are fairly broken these days!!

One's sat in front of me - says he's not sure he'll be able to walk in a week's time

Well done but?

Going back several centuries this sort of thing is what we did in the club I was a member of (still am as you cant get rid of me Badboy). I give you my example.

So Friday night after weeks physical work (we are not talking office work here ). Hitch with all the gear you need to survive in the Dales for a Bank Holiday weekend plus all the caving gear and meet up in Settle (just 2 of us). Beers in the Brass Cat at Settle  (often including avoiding or not a fight with the pissed up locals) and then bivi in some run down barn or other. Saturday after pie and peas in the cafe get to Clapham on the thumb, walk up to the Allotment (including all the bivi gear) and go tripping to Far Waters via Bar Pot, out and then walk to Horton, drink beer, doss somewhere or other. Sunday morning walk to Littondale to meet other club members to explore Sleets Gill, in this example beyond the first sump (free dive). If lucky the older/richer members took pity on you and you ended back in Leeds to then find your own way home from the City Center (at best). Not done to prove any point, simply no car and little money and unable to do it any other way.

So yes well done, but?  :coffee:

Never been interested in the 3p's, be it overground or underground or both - but if it's your thing then fair play and well done  (y)

Most of my peer group received the generous amount of 2 weeks paid holiday a year when I started caving and most did a 5 year apprenticeship, all on low pay - Yes lucky us !  :coffee:

Where do you start and finish once you go down this type of road (or is that this cave)?

When the 3 Peaks became collectable by Joe Public who had/have no idea about loving the hills for the hills sake did any of you get sick of being asked if you had done the 3 Peaks as you supped a quite pint in one of the pubs that are on the route. You then knew the next question was on the Horizon. What time did you do it in? My answer by 35 years of age was I prefer doing the Four Peaks of Yorkshire as a day out, that always took the wind out of their sails. I will leave the reader to decide what was added in and what the route is but its linear and a longer day out and if you want to add in cave I reckon there is a little beltter not far off that particular route. But ???  :coffee:

So enough said now on this topic by moi but if you really want to "be that man" I am sure some people in Hereford would love to hear from you .

Have just noticed with interest that Wild Boar Fell (708m), Great Shunner Fell (716m) and Great Whernside (704m) are all of greater elevation than Pen-y-ghent (694m). The old saying is therefore incorrect "The highest hills 'twixt Tweed and Trent, Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent"; a further look at the Pennines shows that Cross Fell (893m), Great Dun Fell (848m) and Knock Fell (794m) are all in fact considerably taller, as are several surrounding fells. The Cheviot at 815m is also one that stands out as being significantly higher.

Anyway, back on topic, a Four Peaks walk could include Great Shunner Fell or Great Whernside as they lie within the National Park. Great Whernside would be a good addition with some fine caving nearby for the madmen who might try to expand it to 'Four peaks, four pots'....

Great job guys!

Awesome to see you taking up the challenge, planning it well and succeeding. Great to see the updates too.

I'm sure you didn't see many other people out doing the same trip taking advantage of these apparent easier conditions ;) In fact, did you come across anyone in the 3 pots?  What's up next?
