Accidentally locked underground

A few off us were in Laos doing a show cave. It wasnt a guided tour and you were free to wander were you liked.
Being intrepid explorers, we decided to continue pass the end of the show cave into unknown territory.
When we returned an hour later, all the show cave lights were off and the door was locked.!!!! The show cave staff had gone home for the night.
There were a few lookouts in this cave and we ended up shouting to some locals in paddy fields who politely waved back ....and continued farming.
The drop off was too steep to free climb off.
in the end were were able to force the thin one (me) through a gap in the gates with the others prising them open. we then were all able to exit red faced from the cave as some officials returned with the key some hour later. Fortunately i dont speak Laos.wouldnt like to think what they were saying.
I'd just like to add that there were definately no members of the wessex or the craven there because that would be irresponsible, and those 2 clubs have very sensible people for members. :-[

I suppose yes - when I worked at treak cliff, it was common practice to lock the last guide in the cave for a bit, you know for laarf like.
Oh how I used to laugh.

The obvious story that springs to mind is Gordon Parkin being left down Oxlow for two days !!!

Only when his mum phoned someone on Monday "Has anyone seen Gordon" did they realise he hadn't come out.

Story is best told by one of the original members of the party (e.g. bob dearman) after about 6 pints. Hilarious
