Booby Prize for stupid cavers

I edit the PDC web site so just to clarify, there is no intention to ridicule anyone. The primary intention is light hearted humor, but in some cases to make a valid point that really has to be made for the good of caving. For example, teams attempting the Titan-Peak trough trip without sufficient planning, and in some cases without the necessary skills. Another one or two of these could seriously jeopardise access to the system. We once lost access for four years and we don't want that happening again. I would like to think that anyone involved in a gaff could hold their hands up, say "it was me, I did it", take it on the chin and see the funny side of it as well as the serious. No names will be mentioned unless those involved agree. Lets just have a good natured laugh at the booby prize and not have a sense of humour failure. I would quite happily nominate myself! If we'd run this competition in 2006 I'd have won it with my five year old's Barbie bike incident which resulted in three operations and a year of physio. It was a dick head thing to do and I admit it! People are still taking the piss out of me that one.

Perhaps this persons club of which I was a member of for a short time, should shoulder some of the responsibility.
Especially as new members whom go on such trips may not be aware of this persons track record.
I certainly was led to believe the exact opposite by senior club officials, and that trip nearly ended in tragedy.

Perhaps, as some form of health warning, the recipient of the 'booby prize' should be required to wear the prize over the top of any cave helmet for every trip they do for the year. That way, when we meet someone underground who looks like a complete tit, we can run away fast.

Maybe i should nominate myself for my Cork in an undersized bottle incident in Streaks, or f*****g stuck. But a few have now admitted to once getting in the same predicament. Mr Eavis makes it look so easy in the photo as well. I have since started studying surveys and not caving by pictures its a lot safer.

One may argue that competence in caving should encompass avoiding incidents of such a careless nature, IMO. Being 'ard is one thing, but if I was being led into any area of risk (and I believe 'led' rather than 'going caving with mates' is correct in this case), I'd rather it was with a 'pussy' who'd paid due care and attention to ensure my safety.

Hardcase nutters might be best sticking to solo jaunts....
