The land owner is a major international quarry company, the site is also protected by English Nature.
Both organisations were happy to ban ALL access and permanently block ALL the entrances.
It was only by the intervention of local cavers that access was maintained. If it comes to the attention of the owners that damage has been done to the gates then they are just as likely to block them all.
They won't enter into an access agreement and were prepared to tolerate "unofficial" access provided it caused them no problems or liability issues. Now that some lowlifes have done this damage to the gates, it is down to us (cavers) to restore them or the owners will just close of the mines altogether.
