Bradford CAZ

Having tried various driving routes from Sheffield to the Dales over the years I'd settled on one that is now out of bounds for me because of the Bradford CAZ.

Looking at alternatives specifically that aren't Leeds/Wetherby (anything East of Bradford).

Poring over a map leaving the M606 heading west towards Queensbury - Denholme - A629 - to re-join at Keighley looks OK.

There also appears to be a convoluted route hugging Bradford slightly closer via Wibsey - Clayton - Thornton - Cottingley.

Any locals/frequent travellers with any info?

Thanks.

As someone who previously commuted from Halifax to Steeton (between Keighley and Skipton) and from Cemetery Road in Bradford to the Dales, perhaps I can offer some suggestions.

1)
M62 J26 -> Hipperholme -> Stone Chair -> Queensbury -> A629 -> Keighley

Queensbury is at an elevation of over 300m, at this time of year the roads will be deep in snow.

There is no access northbound from the A644 to the A629, you'll have to turn left and go round 2 sides of a triangle. Not much of a detour, though.

The A629 to Keighley is slow.

2) Work your way round the west of the CAZ

At the north end of the M606, turn left onto Rooley Avenue, then
Moore Ave
Great Horton Rd
Clayton Rd
Cemetery Rd
Allerton Road
Right onto Pearson Lane
Left onto Daisy Hill Lane
Right onto Howarth Road
Left onto Bingley Road
Right at the T junction at the end
and that will take you out onto the Bingley Bypass.

Your easiest is still M1, Leeds then A65.

Alternatively onto A1, A59 to Skipton

Went Leeds the other day and had forgotten what an absolute chore it is. Leeds never seems to be quiet and so many lights to contend with (Bradford had those too but weirdly, even at the wrong time of day the traffic always seemed to at least flow).

A1 - A59 is/was always plan B but it is a little longer though does at least flow.

Thanks for the input.

Can't you use the Bradford ring road - A6177?

Googlemaps suggests the M1 to A6120 east of Leeds, then cut across to join A65 (shows only 5 minutes, but 10 miles, longer)

Just check first that the A59 isn't closed at Kex Gill again due to landslips. There's a bypass on the other side of the valley planned for opening in 2025

The CAZ map has the CAZ boundary as the Ring Road. If any one is local and can see different I'm all ears.

If you look at the intersection of the A6177 and the A641 (Manchester Road) the zone explicitly includes the A6177.
There is also a statement in Q&A which states that the A6177 is within the CAZ.

I guessed as much, thanks, didn't read the Q&A.

Can you avoid the upcoming Sheffield CAZ?

Whilst we're on the subject of these extra motoring taxes, what's the situation with Manchester at the moment. Can you go round the east side of the M60 to Stockport to get from the Dales to the Peak District without going through one of these zones?

They've delayed the implementation while GM put forward a different proposal to HMG.
