Amazing. Not far off becoming archaeology. Litter picking is a new concept, obviously. Well done for bringing it out and sideways glances at everyone who hadn't done so before now. Is the cave subject to a conservation policy with an overseeing body? Guess not.

not cave conservation as such but conservation of an area cavers will use.

headed over to chapel le dale to smash out a few level 1 caves, and was a successful day, except when I returned to the car park, I realised just how much shit there was thrown around on the ground.

seriously, humans are absolute fucking disgraces.

I spent a good 20 minutes scouring up and down the section of road and filled a bag with costa cups, maccy d's wrapper, water bottles, packaging from hiking kit and my personal favourite bags of dog shit chucked at the base of the wall.

Seriously how hard is it to take your rubbish with you. If you have a dog take responsibility you fucking animals.

If you're coming out to enjoy the countryside don't f*** it up so others can't.

Did a litter pick in the entrance area of Chartists' Cave during a walk today. Even found the bag in there! Plastic bottles, batteries, wrappers, even some plastic foliage!?. None of it caver related.

It's been a while since there were any posts on here. Maybe the caves are all clean now... :-\

Anyway, here is a modest collection that we took out of Brown Hill Pot yesterday. Frustratingly we forgot to take out the horrible woollen t-shirt type thing I found high up before the rift leading to the 1st pitch. It is still there for whoever is keen.

It turned out they weren't!

A few weeks ago a few of us enjoyed a trip down Newby Moss Pot and there was rubbish galore. We only had one bag so there was relatively little we could do, but we did manage to fit this collection of rope scraps, a kneepad, some plastic (not shown), and this slightly corroded ladder.

Once we can go caving again there is loads more to get. Buckets (plastic and metal), a vast array of heavy digging implements, at least 2 more ladders and 2 old ropes. What a prospect to whet our appetites.

Many people may have seen my post about the Workz washer. Now used it in Fairy Cave Quarry, Swildons and Pridhamsleigh with great success clearing years of mud off walls and stal.

I meant to post here before - many thanks to s_allshorn and (I believe) the Not For The Faint-Hearted conservation fund for the tackle bag. Hopefully one of its early uses after we're allowed back out (/in?!) will be to clear up some of the remaining rubbish in Newby Moss Pot.

My first trip down Langcliffe, and a surprisingly pleasant trip even with the heavy bags. Big clear out with Adele Ward. All the old comms wire is out as far as Boireau Falls. The Big Momma bag survived - the Warmbac died. Apparently there's still lots of old camp stuff beyond Boireau Falls which still needs to come out.

Back in Prid yesterday cleaning with the washer.  It's clear from what has come off that generations of mud slingers have been competing in how far up the walls they can throw it as even 3m up mud is coming off formations that people didn't even know were there. The marbled grey Devonian is also very attractive compared with the overall brown that had been there for years. Much more work to do though.
