Caves on your TomTom

rich

New member
Well over a year ago user Robdeans86 made a file available with GPS info for caves for Tom Tom sat nav systems (original post: http://ukcaving.com/board/index.php/topic,5750.0.html). I've found it very handy being able to navigate to caves using my satnav (especially with my sense of direction  :-[) but the file was only available via RapidShare. I've made a few improvements (e.g. correcting spelling mistakes) and made it available on my website here: http://hwyl.org/index.php?page=caving/satnav.

I'm also planning to expand this file with more cave locations. (I've tried to contact Robdeans86 about this but he seems to have lost interest in ukcaving. If anyone knows who he is, it would be nice to check he doesn't mind me taking on the project he started.)

dunno if a thing called MM (memory map) will be any good for this.

its simply OS maps road atlass maps all on your lap top.
we use it for green laneing as you can plot routes mark tracks add marks ect

walkers also use this as u plott a route on you pc then transfer to a pda ect

so you could mark all caves on it and add infomation and links, then its easy to share with each other.

Odd....

Just try saving it "as" .gpx and then import it into MM. That should work.....

It's actually XML code.

Instead of simply clicking on the link, right click on it instead. If you're in Firefox select 'Save link as' and if you're in IE select 'Save target as...'. That will allow you to download the file.

Eyup,

http://www.peakdistrictcaving.info/peak_district_caves.gpx

If you end up with a load of code all over your screen copy it all, paste it all into Windows Notepad, then "save as", choose a directory to save it in, change the file type at the bottom to "All Files (*.*)" then name the file like something "peak.gpx", then close Notepad.

Open Memory-Map, go to "Overlay", select "Import...", change the "Files of type:" to "GPS eXchange files (*.gpx, *.xml), then find the file you saved, highlight it and click "open"

All being well you'll end up with a load of blue dots all over the Peak District.

PS: If you can't be bothered with all that hang fire and I'll post a .mmo Memory-Map file as well.... in a bit...
