Somebody mentioned to me today a book that detailed caving accidents in scary detail; it may have been called 'Race against time'. Has anyone heard of it or know of a similar one?

seems it was written by Jim Eyre & John Frankland.

available on amazon for a snip (sarcastic)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0950687448/qid=1098816673/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/202-4360486-8799815

cant say I've ever heard of it, but I reckon its probably a good read.

For my last birthday, an non outdoorsy type friend bought me

"The mammoth book of MOUTNAIN DISASTERS. true accounts of rescue from the brink of death"

compiled by Hamish Macinnes.

At first I thought, oh cheers, cheery reading this one.

but actually its great. All the classics compiled into one. Still some of em ar e still a bit gut wrenching to read eg Toni Kurz (eiger) or more recently the Andrew Fisher on the doites.

'Race Against Time: A History of the Cave Rescue Organisation'.
Jim Eyre & John Frankland
ISBN: 0 9506874 4 8

A very good read, sadly out of print. Try eBay or Helter Skelter Books in Ingleton: www.hsbooks.co.uk

Also, there is 'Anytime...Anywhere: The first fifty years of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association'.
(No ISBN on this one)
Still available from Bernie's in Ingleton.

Not quite as good a read, but still very good.

I was bought a copy of Race against Time by my parents as a way of disuading me from this new hobby of mine. :(

Alas their plan failed, the book is a fabulous read and I would recomend it to anyone into their caving whether old or new. After all they bought it six years ago and I'm still going. :D :D :D

I'm pretty sure 'Race Against Time' is still on sale in Inglesport, for £10 I think. It's an excellent read by the way.

Thanks for that. I've found it online at some wildly different prices. Unfortunately it's not available at Inglesport.

Our club has two copies, would you like to purchase as econd hand copy with minimal reading, so minimal I've no idea what state it's in. pm me if you are.

Race Against Time is an excellent read... what would be the selling price for such a book?? The sphincter twinges a bit with the Neil Moss and Mossdale Tragedy. There is a good amount of humor though... pretty typical of Eyre.
