I really like Jugholes - you've got 19th and 20th century fluorspar workings nearest the surface, and two main natural cave levels, with lots of decoration. It's also pretty safe, with some nice climbable sections, boulder chokes and mined-out sections too. A good practice cave. The only thing missing is deep pitches, but sounds like you're not looking for that anyway.

Do not do Lay by Pot it is grotty and horrible, and makes the the top 3 worst caves, infact I think it makes number 1.  The start is a nice shaft, that is where it stops being nice.  You land on a dead pigeon, and then crawl around in mud and water and very sloppy mud and there are so many better caves to do

Having recently done Streaks, while normally a fine Derbyshire trip, I wouldn't recommend it in this weather, you're unlikely to be able/want to get through nervous breakdown and the through trip. I suppose you could od either end and see how close you can get to the middle.

Stick to jug holes, brightgate can be a bugger to find your way back out of if your not up to scratch with navigation!!  Although it's a nice easy cave other than it being a maze.

Are you able to do SRT? this would open up many new and relatively easy pitched systems.

The best introduction to Derbys. caving have always been Carleswark and Gautries, enough to play and more if you want it.
If you want wet and using tackle, go for P8 or Giants.
If you want vertical go for Eldon, Rowter, Knotlow or Water Icicle.
If you want really nice cosy caves, go for Waterfall Hole (but watch out for wetness), Cumberland/Wapping, or Jug Holes (don't forget your spanner!)

VERY heavy rain is forecast right through the weekend. Caves that are flood prone should be avoided.

fingers are sufficient, as the threaad is well worn. tho the shaft top will need med/large adjustable. (y) O. G.

10" adjustable from the pound shop should do it! :) (we take security serious in Derbyshire !)
