Apart from President, Chair person, Treasurer and Secretary, what roles does your committee or club have?

I can only have so many poll options so please add others in the comments.

The NCC had no committee and was a very successful club for several decades. There was only one formal position and that was held by Sam the dog as president. I guess it mostly depends on the people involved and type of club in what you really need to function well.

Aber Uni had at one time more posts than active cavers. (There is a reason for the "5" in their badge.)

Please keep on topic, thanks

Apologies in advance for potentially being off topic but I take it you regard president, chair, treasurer and secretary as a given? My sense is that larger clubs and particularly those with huts generally have more committee positions than those without.

I know of a larger club with no president, or chair. It's never had a president and hasn't had a chair after not being able to find a taker for the job. A chair is co-opted for each meeting.

I personally don't think any role is absolutely necessary for the running of a club (though there may be some roles essential for certain clubs, but not others). However, I think the following are most helpful: holiday sec, meets sec/social sec, treasurer, crumble officer, welfare officer. There may be some clubs for which other roles are more crucial - for example conservation sec if the club 'looks after' a particular cave system, membership sec for clubs with a bigger membership base/intake, hut warden for clubs with a hut, etc. Which is probably why it varies so much from club to club - circumstances vary, organisational structures vary, people available to fill roles varies, etc. I have known clubs before where Cheese Officer, Potato Chief, and Crumble Officer were important committee positions. There's a theme there!

. . . and which one were you? 🍰 🍩🍪
Neither unfortunately! I had other (less important) roles to be doing haha! However I am dating an ex-Cheese Officer and am good friends with several Crumble Officers, so I'm surrounding myself with the right people. Just need to befriend a Potato Chief now
