Caving Club Hut Insurance

What are caving clubs paying for their buildings and contents insurance for club huts? The NPC have been quoted about ?1500 for this year's renewal for our buildings and contents insurance for Greenclose. This is an increase of about ?200 on last year!

Is this similar to what others are paying? Does anyone have a good deals with brokers/insurers? Would be there be any interest in a group deal if that was possible?

Please send me a PM if you would prefer rather than posting.

P'raps I'm playing devil's advocate but I can think of club huts which aren't even worth ?1,500.

Maybe, maybe not.

What a wonderful site though. Can't be matched by any of the others - except, maybe the Shepton (nice views, pub in shouting distance).

There's a few huts on Mendip which are worth ten pence*; there are a few worth a bit more than that. What I was alluding to was whether buildings and contents insurance costing ?1,500, as a proportion of the value of the building in question, was a realistic ratio. For instance, many moons ago I had ?35K contents cover for ?80 p.a. and yet it costs around ?30 a year to insure a mobile phone. Go figure.

I'm guessing that for ?1,500 p.a. the club hut in question is particularly gorgeous and contains lots of gold. Either that or it's made of wicker and has a large open fireplace, with sparky logs on it.

* Each. Not collectively.

quite simple, you are far far far more likely to have to claim for your phone, (it was nicked, I dropped it down the loo, my cat ate it etc etc etc etc)
you are much less likely to be claiming for 35 k of house contents (fingers crossed) .

and I guess the analogy follows for Club huts, it is perceived by the ins companies that there is a greater risk of a claim from a public building where the occupants are of unknown trustworthyness (for want of a better word) each weekend

Sorry I cant be of any assistance with regards my own experience with hut insurance.

Lets try and keep this on topic (rather than descending into a very predictable rant about insurance in general  o_O). It is quite a worthy topic in its own right.  :)

It's worth diverting back to this for one post, just to thank Hughie for the nice comment.  :) Some people appreciate special places for more than just their monetary value.
