Since the 1960s I have had a couple of lumps (presumably scar tissue) on the vertical midline of my chest. The distance between the lumps corresponds to the spacing between my boiler suit buttons. The buttons could be removed for washing - in those days the cotton boiler suits could be boiled at 90 degrees plus. I often caved with nothing except for swimming trunks beneath my boiler suit. The buttons were retained by little steel retainers which cut into the skin and a few times I found a mass of blood when taking off the boiler suit.
