Caving Related Literature

I'm trying, with out much luck, to track down any literature regarding air movements underground. Specifically literature on the mechanisms which drive cave droughts?

I've been in to see Jrat and in his extensive collection of books, but sadly this seems to be an under-reported subject in general caving literature. So far the only reference to cave pressure/air movement is from The Complete Caving Manual p32. Tony suggest I might try individual caving club libraries.

Anyway help pointing toward the location of this literature would be well received!!

Thanks
Sam

Without having looked at them to check, I'd suggest:

The Science of Speleology Ed. Ford & Cullingford
Karst Hydrology and Physical Speleology Alfred Bogli
Karst Geomorphology and Hydrology Ford & Williams
Geomorphology and Hydrology of Karst terrains W. B. White
And check out the indices at http://www.bcra.org.uk/pub/sci-index.html I think that the early BSA  Cave Science may help.

Whilst not specifically about caves, I've found a couple of old mining books which include the theory of natural ventilation - after all the air won't know the difference twixt cave & mine. Try Practical Coal Mining (1913) Vol 4 or (slightly) more modern Mine Ventilation by Penman (1951). To a numeric dyslexic like me the maths is horrid (made worse by being in imperial units), but even I got the gist of it.
More modern mining tomes would no doubt be in SI units but may not include much on natural ventilation.
Hope this helps

Have you tried Speleo Abstracts?  In addition, perhaps you want to try the academic literature, though you would need access to a university student to get access via their computer to the relevant abstracting journals to do the literature search.  Any reasonable club library should have Speleo Abs and if you are really pushed, you could apply to gain access to BCRA's National Library which will hold them (assuming you are a member).

There's a wonderful chapter in Subterranean Climbers, entitled Chasing Draughts (I think), which goes into Chevalier's take on the subject.

Thank you for your help everyone. So far I've found two journals and have contacted my subject Librarian, to see if he can set up an inter-Library:

BCRA - Cave and Karst Science (1993) Vol 7, pp169-178 which is located in Bristol University and BSA - Journal and Proceedings (1947 - 1973) pp28 - 31 which is located in either Plymouth or Exeter.

I also carried out an academic search but only got one solid hit, which was Cave and Karst Science (1993)

Thanks again.

Have a look on the website for the 'International Journal of Speleology' there is a good search facility for the journals, the only downside is many of the papers aren't written in English, the Abstracts can usually be found in English tho.
