I've just had a peek and I couldn't get in. Entered my name and password and it just refreshed the login page again. Guess someone is telling me something.

It's not letting me in

I think some people are struggling to log in due to their browser having an ip conflict. As far as we can work out from using the chatroom, AOL users won't be able to get in via the aol browser, using IE or Firefox fixed this. So if you can't get in or get booted out, use IE/firefox and it should work for the time being.

Does anyone use this anymore?

If not, then I'll get rid - no point in having un-necessary bloat.

I'll take that as a no then - it'll be discontinued when the next version of the forum software is implemented :)

I know the early mania has died away but if it still has the odd flurry of activity surely it's worth keeping? It might be worth mentioning it in the Idle Chat section. It's your call though, there certainly isn't all that much going on and if it's a significant overhead, ditch it.

Chat was always good, it wasted entire evenings but kept the drivel off the forum. I don't go in there now because there is nobody else there. Perhaps everybody else is not there for the same reason.  Catch 22? :-\

Yup I look every so often but there's never anyone to talk to.

Not even Gnomie.

I'm quite happy to leave it but i've never seen it used for ages. It's not really much of an overhead (especially if it's not used!) but it's just a bit of bloat, an added security risk and another thing that may slow down the transition to the imminent next major release of the forum software due to the need for the integration code to be upgraded accordingly.

It might just be that it's a crap chat system and another one may be more successful.

Mebbe it needs to be an occasional event, a little spasm of nonsense, and advertised in advance so that all the blatherers and gossips can arrive at the same time at the same place and clack on their keyboards like the loons that they/we are. IMO. And that's a fact.

It will be like old country branch lines. Nobody used them, but everyone complained when they were taken away.

Off-topic I know but a program I saw recently about Beeching's cuts claimed the time of day chosen to count users was somewhat random with many stations busy with users in the morning and evening (people going to and from work and/or school) being "clocked" at 2 PM for example when there were much less users....

The logic of that may be that commuter runs aren't as profitable as they seem, with large nos of carriages required which then don't have a use for the rest of the day. So maybe the test of viability is indeed how much traffic is generated in the off peak period?
