Does anyone know of a caver-friendly indoor wall [Sheffield - Buxton area] that would be good for SRT practice?  Cheers, David

Contact someone from SUSS who is in Sheffield. SUSS uses a rope access training venue. Sign up to shefcavers on yahoo groups.

If for practice rather than first timer type learning, suicide cave / bottom of Winnats has enough possibilities for a good session of rigging /S.R.T. and better rates than a Gym/ wall. (y)

Yes, next door to the fire station - as used by Nigel Atkins each year for the DCA training event.

You beat me to it Jam.  Last year a friend's top o' the range sat nav couldn't find the fire station in Buxton but did give us the nearest vineyard (in Kent) as an alternative.    :-\

What about Whitehall just outside of Buxton?  DCRO tend to have an annual training session there, so I guess they're caver friendly :) They have a nice little indoor wall, although I think it can get quite busy at peak times.

Z!

Use Whitehall quite a bit with kids from our school. Indoor wall is good but only about 12' at the highest.

Agree with Suicide Cave - there's plenty of rigging possibilities there, with short and long SRT with or with deviations.

I heard on the "grape vine" that Sat Nav's are great, so what you "wine-ing" about...

One or two good suggestions there. I have used Suicide Cave before [thanks OG] and its only 10 mins up the road, but the frequent pools of human pxxx and shxx  in the entrance makes indoor practice a bit more attractive at times. Thanks to all who replied (y)

Pindale Farm Outdoor Centre T: 01433 620111 has a little tower that is perfect for rigging some simple SRT scenarios.

I'm pretty sure its very cheap.

yeah? places like that make my skin crawl though lol full of nubs from the citys lol :p, i was once forced to go on an outwards bounds course as part of my apprenticeship, if i had found anything sharper than a bedhead (sharpest thing they trust city kids with) i'd have cut my wrists...... (rant over) lol

prolly go to horseshoe quarry.
