Why don't you ask him, you are in the same club so you might bump into him, then when you get an answer you could stroll round to The Belfry, nail the answer to their door,
then next time Chris is doing St.Cuthbert's he could read the statement.

simples.  ;)

Because I'm not particularly bothered.

When you write Chris, which Chris are you referring to? All rather confusing. I didn't know Mr. 46 was in the same club(s) as me. I thought he was in the ACG and/or CHCC, a member of neither of which am I.

Captain Chris, are you not in the same club as the current C.S.C.C. C.&A. Officer.
If you could ask him, you could then let Chriscastle46 know,
you and Chriscastle46 used to be in the same club.

Indeed.

However, here's something even more "simples"*....

ChrisCastle46 could post a question regarding the present state of access at Compton Martin Ochre Mine on, say, an online forum which is often visited and read by the CSCC Conservation & Access Officer.

The CSCC C&A Officer could then reply, via that online forum, and let the original questioner know what the latest state of play happens to be.

If this course of action was followed it wouldn't require two other people to get involved, one of whom would need to engage in a face-to-face or over-the-phone conversation with the aforementioned C&A Officer and then subsequently write the response onto paper and then do a 60 mile round journey to pin the answer onto the front door of a club which may soon be visited by the original asker-of-the-now-legendary-question.

Just a thought.

Has Chris (Castle46) has found out the answer to his question yet? It would be useful to know if the lock of this mine is working or not.

I could tell you that I have communicated by PM with Mr Castle on the matter in hand.

If I was to tell you that though then I wouldn't have the entertainment of the past few days with Mr WL and Mr Cap'n Chris swopping banter and suggestions on how to make life really quite difficult when it is very simple.

FYI the situation is not quite as simple as whether the lock is ok or not. I don't wish to elaborate on a public forum, but if you really need to know the answer then I will communicate it by PM.

Suddenly I feel I really need to know. I can wait though, I expect we will see you in the Hunters' sometime soon.

After reading some of the posts above, primarily those of Whitelackingtons, I not only found myself questioning who the CSCC officer actually is (a fact I already know) but I also felt the will to live slipping away from me too. Is it really that hard to get a question answered, without baiting and in jokes?

Shame on you WL.

I am afraid that it is human nature to respond in the way that we have to these topics. It is only natural to deviate a bit from the subject if you are carrying out a conversation with a group of people. I don't think you can change it. If the forum was moderated to an extent that only direct simple answers to questions were allowed then less people would post leading to less people looking at the forum and a continuing decline ensues.

I imagine that it is hard to judge where you cut off the 'general banter' when you are moderating. If you go to far you strangle the forum, if you are too lenient then chaos reigns.

So whereas I can understand when a simple question that is asked gets followed by several useless unhelpful comments, at least they help keep the topic alive. And life would be very boring if conversations were plain and boringly helpful!
