So, this has nothing to do with caving, but I get the impression that there are several computer experts out there who might be able to help me.

I have an iMac, and when I run Excel it always tries to open in Text Edit, which is not really a problem most of the time, but today I was doing some accounts, constantly switching between spread-sheets, and this became something of a nuisance. So – can I change the default application to Excel rather than TE? I even tried to get rid of TE, but couldn't – it seems to be a part of the machine's set-up.

In the short term, while you're working out how to change the default, instead of just clicking to open a file, right click and choose "open with ..."

Morning jimmo62, I followed your advice and now my default app is Excel. Thanks for the tip, Happy New Year (to you and everyone on this forum).
