We're sure you're all aware of the tragic incident that took place on Saturday.  First and foremost our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the casualty's family and friends.

We need to say a huge thank you to every team member and individual caver who took part in what was a very difficult, protracted incident - everyone stood up to the mark and made a tremendous effort, thank you.  Unfortunately it wasn't the end result that we all were hoping for, but it is 100% safe to say that everyone did absolutely everything they could.  In addition to the people working directly on the rescue, we are also immensely grateful to all of the people working behind the scenes preparing food and supplies to keep the troops on the ground fed and watered, thank you, without you support a tough day would have been much tougher.

Despite the sad outcome, the incident really does show how close knit the caving community is and how you/we will all pull together to help out fellow cavers.

As you will have seen from our post yesterday, we had to call on lots of friends and colleagues yesterday to assist with the evacuation of an injured caver from a 'dig' on Fountains Fell. Unfortunately the casualty succumbed to his injuries during the incident and sadly died. Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go to his family and friends. Our thoughts and deepest thanks are also with everyone who were involved.

This incident took in excess of 1600 man hours, virtually every piece of caving equipment in our stores, and, a large quantity of medication and medical supplies, all provided by ourselves. It also involved us being able to feed and water almost 100 people into the early hours of this morning. Due to the severity and urgency of the situation, a lot of equipment was sacrificed expedite the potential extraction of the casualty. If you feel that you could assist the team in helping to replenish our stocks and equipment supplies, we would be deeply grateful for any donations to help us out.

Please could we have some information about who in CRO is co-ordinating incoming donations for this purpose, with an idea of how to contact them? (Even just a name and a mention they'll be in the Depot on Wednesday nights or whatever?)

This is because there may be a possibility of arranging a one off donation from a source which is not immediately available and it might help CRO to be aware that this could be coming in due course, if it can be arranged. But others might find this contact information useful anyway.

(I did miss this, because, like other people I know who may be interested in helping, I actively avoid Facebook.)

There are otherways of electronically donating, see https://cro.org.uk/fundraising-for-cro/ where you can use the upper right hand link to give via a service called "Just Giving" or the lower right hand link which uses PayPal.  Both assume you have accounts with those organisations.

I can't see a route for a donation using a credit card.

If however you are advanced enough to have internet banking then the CRO Standing Order form at https://cro.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Bankers-Order-Gift-Aid-18.pdf does have their bank account details and one could use that to send a one off donation.  (Though I suspect their Treasurer may not be happy at one level for getting random amounts appearing in his nicely organised account.)

Or as the thread https://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?topic=25090.msg310129#msg310129 suggests, send a cheque.

Hi Pitlamp, there's no one person coordinating things at the moment, if truth be told we are all blown away by the response so far.  I'm a CRO team member and have been involved with the donations so far - I'd be happy to act as a point of contact, I will contact you via PM.  Many thanks for all of the support.

Just a quick thank you to all from the Cavers List who were able to make the debrief at Clapham last night. We've said it already, but will say it again - the value added by having an on call group of skilled and experienced cavers to supplement our own members is immense. All of the points raised last night, both good and bad, will inform the ongoing process of improving our equipment, procedures and processes. It has certainly been an extreme way to mark National Volunteers week!
