Dear Club Reps.

I am still awaiting the precise wording of the Statement from the Equipment Committee, but am aware of what it will say. As far as the Company is concerned, the outcome is that we can restore access to the Ladder Dig in G.B. immediately - and I have instructed someone to remove the disabling kit and the warning tags from the bolts there - and can restore access to Rhino as soon as the take-off to the first pitch has been repaired. Andrew will be undertaking the latter as soon as possible, we know what needs doing, and I will inform you when it is done. If he cannot do it this week, he is away next week so there might be a slight further
delay.

Well Peter the way that I read this is that 'As a result of this investigation the Equipment Committee have concluded that there is not a safety issue in the caves concerned.'
So this means that Hunters Hole etc can now be used again once the tested hangers are replaced
In other words we can at least get on with it now. Have we got some replacements arranged?

I was just suggesting that at least we are not waiting for the final decision to be made.

Please remember that it up to the owner of Hunters Hole to grant permission to go down the cave, not CSCC or any one else.  I am unable to state as yet what plans are in hand to make the owner aware of BCA's Equipment Committee's statement and then seek his opinion as to how HE WISHES the cave to be reopened.  I can say that plans are in hand but not yet confirmed.  So don't start jumping for joy just yet.  There could be another hurdel just around the corner.

An update on Hunters situation.

I have briefly spoken with the owner, Roger Dors, and have arranged to meet him on Saturday 26th to explain the situation.  On the presumption that he is willing for CSCC to replace some of the anchors, then it will come down to how quickly that can be done.  I cannot say how many need replacing as that will be in part down to an inspection of the anchors, but my guess is that at least 7 will be replaced.  33 anchors have now been given to Andrew Atkinson and a further 12 will be supplied in due course.  (Some dusty corners have been explored, including France and Hungary!)

So it should come down to the task of replacing these anchors which no doubt will not be that simple.  And I guess that holidays will crop up as well.

Hey, my comment was only a technical play on words, and not a dig at anyone or anything anyone wrote. It's based purely on an explanation I received from 'a reliable source' on how the problem arose in the first place. As I suspected, probably lost on most people.

I didn't, but I realise that it was almost certainly a clever play on words that was way beyond my measly intellect!

Is it now the case that only a single bolt needs to be replaced in Rhino Rift?

I am aware that the rock @ this single point has been cracked
and a different hang point will now have to be chosen.

Do we have a new single "P" bolt for the job? :-\

And inform people I will. The work has now been done (today) and the cave can now be opened for business again.

The first pitch has been reworked with a new rig. One task remains to be completed, which is to source some decent chain to complete the new Y hang so that it does not rub. A knotted sling is in place and will be replaced as soon as some decent chain has been acquired. Please do not steal the sling.
