Diy drill battery - Charging

Im going to use 20 x 10Ah 1.2V D cell batteries in series. Will a battery charger designed for SLA batteries be ok?
I have found this one, just wanted to make sure its right before i start spending.

No.

Get a dedicated NIMH /NICAD charger or you might get problems with exploding batteries etc. I really recommend the third one down onthis page:

It is intelligent, you can charge any number of cells upto a maximum of 10, it works with mains and 12v. As you have 20 cells, you'll need to charge them in 2 sets of 10.

James - I have just bought one of those today.

I have various drills and batteries - as have many lads in the club - so come round some time and see us if you want to borrow something rather than spending money on stuff that may or may not be appropriate for what your doing.
If at some stage you feel you need to buy your own kit - then you'll have a better idea of what works/what doesn't

its no good throwing good money after bad.

I may well have a spare evening next week to get out and have an evening in a quarry as we discussed.
