'Dont throw rocks' sign at Gaping Ghyll?

The opening post describes exactly what happened on a recent Dihedral trip I was on, while I was rigging the deviations on the first pitch I was rather startled by the noise of a large rock falling down. Then another came down and I then thought that there was someone at the top throwing them down. If any more came down I was going to get out. Everyone else on the team was at Jib tunnel, thankfully my mate Matt went out and saw a teenager holding a large rock above his head. Matt said ?erm would you mind not throwing rocks as my mate is down there on a rope?, apparently his response was in amazement ?What! There is someone down there on a rope?!!!? So despite being with his dad he obviously wasn?t even aware that caving exists.

I was up at GG on Sunday and had to yell at a youth with his father who had a substantial rock  in his hand about to be hurled over the edge.

I'm not for signing in the great outdoors. However in this particular location if a sign was placed next to the already existing sign and helped to prevent even a small proportion of the rocks lobbed over the edge it would be beneficial to cavers!

How about a nice interpretive sign explaining how GG got to be there, and with a paragraph about cave exploration to tune people into the fact that caves are places people go into, and then add the bit about "... so don't throw stones, litter etc".  That way the casual walker comes away feeling a bit informed on caves and knows why it'd be silly to throw a stone in.

* Oops I see mikem has already suggested this...

I have heard it said that the GG Main Chamber is actually twice as big as it appears because the bottom half is full of rocks. Maybe people have been lobbing them in for longer than we appreciate!  ;)

There is an interpretive sign already, up at the fencing on the steep side. Don't know what it says, though.

Famously, there is a shaft* in the bottom of Eldon Hole that has been infilled by exactly this process.
