I hope he's OK.

I spoke to a friend of the casualty yesterday. He (the casualty) is in hospital. There is a better account on the CRO website http://www.cro.org.uk/2006.html incident 49

Just a thought but do any of the CROs have a website where you can donate money online? If not why not?

If you mean, "using a credit card" the answer is probably that the costs of that setting up with the card companies would be excessive.

But if you want to set up a donation see http://www.cro.org.uk/giftaidform.html

Can be done quite cheaply with nochex and paypal though  (y)

As the incident report states "fell 2 or 3 metres". As I have mentioned in the past, you don't necessarily have to fall a long distance to be seriously injured.

Get well soon!

Plus you need some server-side processing, etc. and the website may be a simple, low cost one which doesn't offer such facilities or maybe a lack of somebody with the abilities to carry out the job voluntarily...

You can also send donations to Derbyshire CRO via http://www.derbyshirecro.org.uk/donations.html, if you wish  :)

Just giving is easy enough to set up I imagine.

Ian B.

But costs £15 to £20 a month...
Hidden Earth has set up online booking through Nochex and Paypal

It costs a small percentage on a transaction basis, for our purposes it costs around £1 on a £50 transaction, although will be a larger percentage on a smaller transaction.

The same could be done by the CRO's any costs will come out of the donation not from the CRO's own funds.

How easy is it to set up and does it require any server-side scripting, etc. Les?

I have heard the guy is leaving hospital today, so that is very good news.

It is very easy to set up, paypal will give you all the scripts to integrate it into a web site.
I don't think it needs serverside stuff as you are sent to paypal's site to make the actuall donation.
Not sure about Nochex, David Gibson knows though.  ;)

The Hidden Earth stuff uses javascript, I think, to calculate the amount due and to error check the form, and then passes it to the relevent payment site. Still doesn't need SSI though

Again David Gibson is your man but I'm sure he won't thank me for giving him more work.  ;)

I'm only guessing, but I imagine that he only fractured one of his pelvic arches, but not the pelvic girdle itself. I don't think he could have got out under his own steam otherwise.

Yep.

I gave Gavin a lift back to Oxford. He's on the mend, wondering when he can get back undeground.

Ciao,
Peter

Just out of idle interest, why was he caving on Christmas Day of all days? I'm a keen enough caver, and have often caved on Christmas Eve or Boxing Day, but if I suggested Christmas Day I'm sure none of my mates would come; not to mention the conflagration it might cause with family.

How many people here have gone, or would go caving on Christmas Day?

Why not - its got to be better than being stuck inside.

I've been caving on several Christmas Days its just as good as on other days ....
