Hi All
Apologies for not responding sooner, however for my sins I am not a regular UKC poster/ viewer, and as I knew there were some pictures going in descent I thought I might as well keep it quiet till then.
The Boil Up was originally explored back in the late 80s by Jim Davenport, Simon Brooks and friends who did a sterling job digging out the original rift and exploring over 200m of sporting flooded passage to a silt filled tube and a too tight continuation.
However it had not been looked at for a long time since, and it was the silt filled tube which in the yielded its secrets.
This attempt has been going since the summer, and has received a massive amount of carrying support from a variety of SUSS, EPC, CDG members, as well as a couple of persuadable work colleagues. So I would like to say a massive thanks to all of them. It would not have happened without you
Since the original newsflash that appeared in Descent, Mike Butcher and myself have returned a second time and surveyed the bit between the end of the boil up and the second sump. This includes a couple of side passages (one pointing towards the Wet West and only 40m away
), and turned out to be about 360m in total to that point. I'd guess the bit the other side of the 2nd sump may be about double that...We were hoping to return this weekend, but sadly water levels were too high.
It's an awesome place, I hope we (not me, mostly diggers from the EPC) can get a dry (ish) route in soon.
Any questions (or offers of assistance) please drop me a line
Cheers
Rob M
