I think you should just be your natural self. If you start worrying about whether everything you post is 'acceptable' you would be letting yourself and the rest of us down. Unless you are the sort of person that others avoid by crossing to the other side of the street, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I hope all you who have been so damning of 'drivel' are pleased with yourselves. Now we have nice people, who are a pleasure to chat with, feeling guilty that they are just drivellers who should be more careful about what they post. Well done!

Peter - I'm going to carry on "drivelling" - as I sincerely hope you will. If topics get shitheaped, then so be it. At least we'll still be having fun!  (y)

Some people seem to struggle to differentiate between "drivel" and boring "drivel". If you don't like it, don't fecking read it.

Yes. Let's have this ignore feature as soon as possible. Then if anybody has any complaints about what I write, my simple answer is to suggest they just add me to their ignore list. Job done.

Absolutely. This "ignore" feature will be a tool of total arrogance - the user will only realise this when attempting to join in a thread on which they'll only have part of the available information.

I'm looking forward to it!

SMF seems to know when you post a reply when other replies have been posted. Perhaps it can warn you if you post to a topic containing messages by people in your killfile. A job for the animated karabiner, Peter - how's your php scripting?

Ideally, any sort of ignore user modification would just collapse the post from somebody on your list, rather than not show it in any form.

It's about choice. If people get annoyed by somebody then there's nothing wrong with them having the choice not to read their posts.

Like Anne, I'd like more guidance as to where the boundary is. Saying 'look at the shit heap' is OK, but I can remember looking at a thread I'd been following and finding myself surprised that it had vanished into the shit heap. Would it be possible to include a 1-liner as to why you've shit-heaped something? - eg was it the topic itself, or was it that it had degenerated beyond the standard? I don't want to point fingers 'shit-heaped because of XXX's comment' but some explanation of what facet was unacceptable would be helpful.
Ok good point, an explanation of why something has been heaped is probably a good idea.

Other than that the basic guidelines are like i have said above - no excessive banter/attempts to derail/etc on caving topics. What is excessive depends upon the topic and nature of the banter - we'll just have to work that one out over time so that a sensible balance is achieved.
