Forum problems

Bloody hell! I don't have a scooby about IT and all of that Black Magic that you guys deal in, but, since coming back on here just now after all of the fuus today, this is now so fast on my PC!!!.......Before, I would wait fore approx 10 to 20 seconds until loading a page, now it's almost instant!!  ;)

Well done who ever has done what ever they have done, it's worked wonders for me

I've always been a bit sceptical about hosting site like this and company database services with multiple simultaneous users on 'cloud' tech.

Give DigitalOcean a try. Might change your mind.

Cheap, stupidly fast, choose the location of your server. But it's unmanaged, so you need to know what you're doing. Add ServerPilot and you have a rock-solid, blazing fast server for $5 a month.

Hosting isn't what it was five years ago.

I'm still getting "The Truth.." showing under "Show new replies to your posts" even though it was last updated back in Feb and I've visited it (more than once, I think) since....  :)

I've also had "failed to connect to forum" all weekend on Tapatalk.

Tapatalk works for other forums and I can access UKc via the browser on my phone.

And me, although in my case don't worry about it as I find it far too fiddly to use and quit on it anyway a few weeks ago.

UKC doesn't appear in the search for forums results on Tapatalk anymore

I "unfollowed" the forum and now can't find it again - some topics show up in the search, but these throw up the same "failed to connect" message...

Hi Folks,

We're on it, promise!

Please keep letting us know of problems, we are reading them and we are trying hard to get them rectified, however some times it is frustratingly difficult.....

Thanks, Jane

Apologies for going off topic, but would one of you tapatalk fans explain to me what it's for? I tried it a while ago, and all it seemed to do was lump all the forums into one, thus breaking the structure of the site and showing me posts I wasn't looking for. I guess it must do more than that, given how important people find it, but what?

Thanks.

Tapatalk: I used it a long time ago, when it was a paid-for-app, now I believe it's free and you get the pleasure of adverts.. Always a good reason to go off an app!

All it does is (from what I've gathered) make a forum easy to read on mobiles, assuming the forum doesn't have a specific mobile version or adapts to suit screen size. It's easy to install the add-on on a forum and many different flavours of forum are supported. Structure exists, different boards can be viewed or recent/new topics listed, PM's supported. Nice idea if you access a forum regularly on a mobile, great if you use many forums that support it as it's quicker than viewing sites (like UKC) and having to zoom in all the time to read content etc..

Could this be a problem with IE8, the latest windows explorer to work on XP,? a lot of sites have now developed to work on IE9 (or later), for which you have to fork out to pay for Windows 7 (or later) in order to use!!

Google Chrome seems to overcome this anomoly, as does Firefox, I tend to divert to Chrome if I have a problem, not a lot of experience with Firefox----

I-Phone, Twitter, Tappatalk - etc. you've made your bed, lie on it !!!!, don't bugger it up for the rest of us!---

I select the "unread" tab on the tapatalk app - then it shows me only the topics I haven't read. It also adjust the text size for the phone screen as Inferus suggests - I find it's a bit easier than accessing the forum through a web browser on a phone (when it works  ;)).

I wonder if there is a difference in how much mobile data the two options use, for people on a limited tarrif?

Thanks, tapatalk people - I get it now, it's for small screens. I was using it on a tablet which is big enough to use desktop layouts. I still use a Nokia e71 phone which doesn't use Android. On there I use Opera mini, which is good for data usage as the sites are compressed by Opera's server.

I stopped using it for the same reason, it just gave me the whole forum in what seemed a fairly random order.

What does the "unread" tab look like?

Tapatalk is great for viewing forums on a smart phone.  Much much better than viewing the normal site from browser, which is nigh on impossible to navigate ...zoom in,,, click, zoom in, scroll across etc etc.

I can quickly switch between the 3 forums I usually browse.
Its changed its layout a few times very recently, but the latest incarnation has 5 buttons - from left to right they are

Trending - I never use this, just highlights popular topics. Bit random.
Timeline - all topics in order of most recently posted in.
Unread (middle button) - used the most - list of topics I've not yet read.
Subscribed (star) - never used this - I think you can 'watch/subscribe/star' or whatever, certain topics.
Participated - list of topics you contributed to.

One of the great things about tapatalk, is you can host pics on it directly. So no need to host on say flickr or photobucket, then link. Instead you can just upload pics into your posts directly if your doing it via tapatalk.

Whats not to like. (please fix it!!  :kiss2: )

We have pushed the IT department daily, twice daily even, since Tapatalk went down.  We will get it up and running again soon.

As I understand it...  Tapatalk had to be deregistered by the previous owners before it could be got back up and running in our name.  The previous owners removed the current listing, but Tapatalk seem to be having trouble recognising that, it is also proving difficult to get a speedy response from them...     we will persevere.

Thanks to tapatalk users for there patience.  :)
