Today a band of 8 men have sent the late Frank Brown, on his final trip from the the bottom of his dig in Nettle pot, the small stream at the bottom as far as i know the exit of the stream has ever been positively identified.  A few people believe that it may appear in the main rising or slot mall in peak cavern, castleton.  Along with his ashes we have put some fluorine in the stream so if anyone notices any Green dye coming out of the stream can you please inform me via this formum.

The ashes and fluorine were put in stream around 14.40 pm sunday the 19Th October.

Prior to the trip the Wanted in put on a wonderful breakfast abd a sandwich spread on our return.
Good trip had by All involved.

Flourine, eh? Well it might not turn the water green but it'll probably help lower your dental bills if you drink it. ;)

Actually, its fluorescein. ;)

If you only used a small amount it's highly unlikely that the risings will turn a discernible shade of green anyway.

.... and it's Slop Moll in Peak Cavern gorge .

It would have been sensible to ask Peter to keep an eye on Russett Well - well worth a donation to the chutrch roof fund to get not only a positive but a timing as well.

Graham, I think you're confusing it with fluoride, which is commonly added to toothpaste and somethimes drinking water to help strengthen teeth.

Sorry Rhys, but I thought if I got too pedantic that it would ruin my snappy one-liner.  8)

Paul is being very modest. He and Rob were the only ones from the 8 (combined age about 450!) who started who made it to the bottom. Also we should point out that all who made it as far as Red River experienced breathing problems. See Phil Burkes reply to "Bad air in Nettle Pot" yesterday. Also we should thank Higgy for the whisky at the entrance!
We could only get half of Frank into the container. His other half is making its way through Giants. Apologies if anyone in there yesterday saw the water go a little milky.

Thank you for sharing this experience of what you have done for your friend Frank Brown.

This is a heart warming report :coffee:.
Cave exploration creates such a tight bond of friendship, what a shining example!
450years wow now theres a lot of life experience!

If your friend Frank were able to see what you've done for him together as a group of loyal friends I'm sure it would really please him, Well Done.

As a point of interest, might I ask do you all belong to the same caving club?

Years ago I sat in Penwyllt listening to Bill Little planning his last trip down the OFD streamway in similar fashion.

Frank's not the only DCC member to be still underground in his favourite spot.

Tom Fowden (The Wizard) rests in the eponymous shaft in the floor of the DCC's Alderley Edge visitor centre.

It's nice that Frank ended up in the cave where he spent so much time and effort. Nettle was the place where he dreamt of discovering those elusive 'caverns measureless to man'. His enthusiasm for Nettle was irrepressible and in the late 1980's and early 90's, he spent virtually all his time down there mainly initially with Pete O'Neil and later with myself, along with any other DCC member he could press-gang into helping.

Caving with Frank was definitely an experience especially as his lamp always seemed to fail at some point in the trip but he knew Nettle so well that he could manage all of the pitches in complete darkness. I often wondered whether his brand of roll-ups had improved his vision in some way as he always made time for a smoke at the top and bottom of every pitch.

Unfortunately back problems put an end to his caving career later on in the 1990's and he was unable to finish his projects in Nettle. I hope though that people remember the contribution he made down there especially in the Red River and the Hell extensions. Anyone that's been down to the Hell dig will appreciate the effort that was needed to dig there and hopefully be inspired by what Frank did.

i am not great at spelling my self but i like to think that this forum is more about content than your litracy skills and althouth the odd quip is fine this is a sensertive post and mite not be the place to have a dig at some one who has just done there best to send a good frend off.  although if you realy cant make sens of it you could PM them so they can have another go.

Sorry i missed it lads, sounds like it was a great trip. He sounded like an amazing fella.  Hope we can all get down tatty wife soon.
Good pics groundhog.
p.s. there are some right "know all's" on this forum are there not? UK climbing has a similar type of individual, they seem to read every post in meticulous detail, and no doubt sit salivating at the merest hint of an opportunity to fire back "actually i think you will find.............". Give me strength.
