If you see buttcrack you just yell "Pencil Holder!"

Here we tend to shout "Park your bike there" - I guess we're still separated by a common language.

Also here we have "European"  caving, like "European beach dress" - ie topless.

Did I mention the YHA? They have some nice places to stay with very reasonable food & drink prices. Many in the Peak District are former stately homes & the like. A reasonable half way house cost-wise between caving club hovels huts and hotel/B&b accommodation.

Thanks for the link! I will look into them too.

I really want to get going on booking the trains to get from place to place so that way I can get the cheap advance tickets.

It would be helpful if maybe folk could email me (I have troubles following PM's here on this board since they go by date and not conversation) what days work for them for caving? You have all been awesome with the offers, I just want to make sure the dates I'm going to be there work for you though! Maybe I'm too much a planner haha I like to know where to be when especially in a foreign country!

These are my thoughts right now,  confirmation that people are around on the days would be great :)
Nov 11th/12th: London (lodging is set, my aunt lives there :) )
13th/14th/15th: Mendip (I have an inquiry out to the Wessex Cave Club about their hut)
16th/17th/18th: Edinburgh (I probably have a spot to stay at a friend's...I hear Tuesday nights is a pub meet for cavers too, sounds like not many caves in the area though, but I like the city :) )
19th/20th: Leeds (I am staying with friends in the city on the 20th, since I'm there for Thoughtbubble.)
21st/22nd: Yorkshire Dales (Need to find a place to stay for this still)
23rd/24th: back in London

My email is amy @ amysrabbitranch.com (take out spaces)

Okay stuff is set!

I'm arriving in Wells on Friday about 4:00, Les is going to pick me up (thanks!) to go to the carnival and then I'm staying in hut...Sat morning early we're leaving for OFD (sweeeeeeeeet) and then Sunday is Mendip (Swildon or something like that, I think, if I remember right).

Sunday morning (the 21st) the earliest train gets me to Horton in Ribbsdale station at 10:17am where Terry/Bradford Pothole Club is gonna pick me up and go caving. There are no Monday plans as of yet, but I'll be there for Monday too, hopefully we can get a trip together?

The only thing I'm missing is accommodation figuring out in Edinburgh...I'll be there nights of 17th and 18th. I guess I'll be missing the Tuesday pub meet. I arrive in Edinburgh Wednesday the 17th evening (5:30) and I'm leaving Friday at 1:00pm. I don't mind couchsurfing... >_>

HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

So I'm safely back in the US now.

I HAD SO MUCH FUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ESPECIALLY DOWN IN MENDIP OMG YOU GUYS ARE SUPER AWESOME

Especially thanks to Les for the OFD & GB trips, Burt for the Swildon trip, Alan for the mine trip, and Bones for the Heron Pot trip! Ya'all rock (hehe see what I did there?) The trips were a lot of fun  ;) sometimes a bit nervewracking  :doubt: but they were all a bouncy good time  :D and a laugh  and while I don't drink beer the center of the universe was amazing  and the hugs  were nice too.

I can't wait to come back!

Photos are going up on my flickr (www.flickr.com/sunguramy) already up or up shortly.

And if anyone knows Ferret poke him into getting his photos up since I know I'm in some of them and I wanna see!

Bulletpoints!
- Holycrap the traverse in OFD1 0.o
- Huuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee room in GB
- So many pretties! I've never seen that many! And I've never seen some of them before either, only photos, so woooo!
- Hanging out at the Wessex hut
- Forgetting (more like not thinking as it never crossed my mind) a change of clothes for the OFD1 trip so being freezing but luckily Hat Stand had a jacket for me to borrow and then I ended up falling asleep on his shoulder in the car ride back haha
- Drunken dude totally hitting on me & falling all over me Saturday night at the Wessex (drunk dude if you are out there, next time, I am punching your lights out, just fair warning)
- Tea, lots of yummy tea
- Successfully faceplanting multiple times whenever I tried to use a coversuit. Sorry, I don't see how ya'all can move in those damn things.
- Everyone staring at my feet
- the nicknames! dude, that's super awesome! (...I kinda hope I will get one sometime... :-[)
- Steph! You are awesome girl - <3'd talking nerdy with you!
- Apparently saying I don't know vertical/srt at ALL means oh hey let's do a cave with it! 0.o In the end, i am glad I went with my gut and stuck to "no". Sorry, uncomfortable harness (I don't know how "uncomfortable" they are supposed to be, but it was litterally hurting to wear it), I have no clue how to use a stop, sprung on me last minute so ya I was flustered with that and I guess this isn't the NSS forum but I have a lot of fear surrounding that - the first time I tried getting on rope was another quick "oh hey this isn't hard just do it here for a bit so we can go to the cave" and I almost died I swear. After that lovely experience I don't even much like hights or climbing so honestly everything I was able to do (like the traverse! or some of those chimney things and stuff! and climbing up the falls in GB!) was amazing personally for me. Ya'all are a good bunch :)

<3!
*hugs*

Don't worry, I'll be back someday :) Hoepfully sooner than later, and hopefully with some of my buddies from TAG in tow hehe

OH I forgot a few biggies!
- Falling into a pot in Swildons - I totally thought it was a deep one and I asked and Burt said it wasn't!
- Kinda falling into a pot in OFD1 - that water was sure strong! It was one without a pole across it. Although I almost fell in one of those too.

  Come on then, who was it?  Any ideas Les or are you not allowed to tell?

Glad you had a good time Amy, I knew you would with Les and Co looking after you.

Yeah I know he wasn't from Mendip area, that's all I know. Even if I did know I don't think I'd have the heart to publically call him out here (if he's even on this forum). I'm sure it will be enough next time we cross paths and I just always refer to him as "Hey drunk dude!"

I don't think Les knows who it is, I don't think he was around then because I had gotten a lift back to the hut from the pub with some other guys and I should really remember their names but I don't. I mean, I collected still a good 10 or so names on the trip which is doing VERY WELL for me since I'm shit at remembering names. To be fair, drunk dude was trying to hug/cuddle EVERYONE just some of us were getting more attention than others. And the only reason I didn't punch him was because he was an apologetic type one, he seemed to understand I hated how he was acting towards me and kept apologizing for it but couldn't stop himself. Next time, I'll just help him stop. WHOEVER YOU ARE, YOU ARE FORWARNED! AMERICAN CHICK WILL BEAT YO ASS.  :tease:

Haha no back at the Wessex hut on Saturday night. And yeah, people drink, get drunk, 'tis fine do whatever you want. Just no drunken hitting on/falling over/won't leave me alone to the American chick! I love cuddles and among my friends have a reputation for being very huggy and cuddly but I really don't like being around people who are *that* drunk.

Hehe. So wait, who are you? Now I have to match forum name with who you are IRL :D Les is easy since he's still Les! And your title suggesting your name is Dave actually doesn't help. If I have to guess...uhhmmmmm....yeah I can't. Everyone over there seems to be named Dave/David.

I'm Gnome, that helpful soul who spotted you through GB and ended up carrying all the bags  (y)
I don't recall seeing you in GB. Were you there?  :doubt:

Yeah I"m not sure how you ended up with my bag. I meant to take it back after that one climb but you were running up too far ahead :p
<3

Hehe a grotto down in TAG that I've caved with asked me to write an article about my caving experience in the UK, I totally mentioned the three of you by name because you WERE JUST THAT AWESOME :D *huggles* I have a few corrections to make and I'll send it to ya'all then.

OH and all the photos of my adventures caving and otherwise in the UK are all up now in this set on flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/sunguramy/sets/72157625270506891/ so you should check it out :D I miss ya'all already, I will totally be back. I've watched ticket prices for about 2 years now (since I visited last August as well) and it seems that prices in March/April are usually the cheapest tickets (round trips to Heathrow for like $400/$450 sometimes!) so I'll probably end up shooting for March/April 2012 because to be honest I'm totally broke right now...and my spare travel  money/flightmiles are already in use (January flying back down to TAG for 10 days, next March might be going to Boston, if I can somehow swing it, May is going to Israel with my capoeira group but that one is gonna be a huge stretch as it would be about $2500 - flight alone is $1600 or so the rest is so I can actually be there for a few weeks) so...yeah...a trip back over there next year doesn't look promising :(

YOU'LL ALL JUST HAVE TO COME HERE!!!! Especially if I get moved down to Atlanta or so next spring :D I can totally let ya'all stay with me then and you can meet my cavebuddies and we can all go caving in the best TAG caves :D

Peace love and pancakes!
*hugs*

This may be a silly question but what's "TAG"?
Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia. They have some good caves there.
Some? SOME? There are thousands of caves there, hundreds worth actually going into. Although to be honest I have yet to see ones as varied or as challenging as the ones I did while I was staying in Mendip. The horizontal part of the Dales cave (Heron Pot) was prettymuch exactly like a section of our cave here in Michigan though, which is easy compared to TAG caving.

ON the way back from OFD I wrapped Amey in my large beach towel to keep warm.

It had a picture of a horse on it.

Anyone know where it ended up?
