HELP REQUIRED - Saturday 21st - slop moll (peak).

There have been many instances of VERY upset villagers arising from cavers getting changed in the Peak Cavern car park over the years, which have taken a huge amount of smoothing over.  Those living within sight won't realise that you're there doing a job for Peak Cavern (as opposed to just recreational caving) and it might give the moaners more ammunition.  Really, it might be best if you arrived ready changed if possible and just slip into oversuits or something.  Or how about nipping into the Chapel (i.e. TSG hut for those not local) to get changed?  I should be there at 9-00 so you'll be able to get in.

Right then...

It was an excellent day on sat. The foundation to the new wall is complete and the existing wall is held at bay with copious amounts of scaff and shuttering.
Next step is to build the wall, any volunteers for this sat?

The wall needs to be stepped back behind the bottom horizontal scaff and built up to the next horizontal, ginged face (no pointing) and back filled with rock/wet mix.

Hose pipe and long 240v cable required.

Count me in John. Hose pipe and cable are no problem.

Who else can come?

Nick.

Hi guys

Many thanks to Braveduck and Ally who dragged themselves away from ingleborough for the day and worked like troopers all day.

Also Marcus Crabbe, Bob Dearman, Dave Cowley, Chris (Eldon), John Taylor

Many hand make light work etc - though Im sure Ally would disagree as she spent most of the day mixing concrete

As for this saturday - I cant make it - on holiday is some far flung exotic land .... think its called Wendydale or something. Famous for cheese. (Anyone know if they accept euros).

Twebb mentioned he might be available - and AndyF ?

I think Jim Lister might too (though not sure).

Johnny - can you provide some instructions about your proposed "phase 2" - I'll try and post up a photo of how we left it.

is this happening this weekend then?

Yes. Meet in the Peak car park at 09:00 on Saturday.

Please let me know (via the board or a PM) if you can make it - it would be helpful to have an idea of numbers in advance. So far, it's looking a bit thin!

I've been to look at the job this morning, and while it will be 'doable' with the four people who have offered already, it is definitely a case of "many hands make light work" so if there's anyone else who can help on Saturday, please say so.

I'm taking my Landrover but it might well be helpful to have another vehicle which it doesn't matter if rocks and soil are chucked in the back of. I can see that an expedition to liberate some large stones from Dirtlow Rake may well be a useful part of the exercise.

Glad to see you posting Nick! You didn't drown last night then?

It was certainly quite damp but we did not drown! Eddie and I shifted about 10 bags and then spent an hour taking some photo's - with limited success, I may add, but it is the first time I have tried using an external flash-gun underground.

Lots of noise of water alongside/above us in the shaft but nothing but drippers in the bottom.

Hopefully you will be able to make it next week. Scaffolding and capping will be on the agenda.

That would be ace, please Mark. If you can lead the effort to get some big rocks from up at Dirtlow and get them back to the gorge, then we can probably manage without you after that.

We'll start with a council of war in the car park at 9:00. See you then.

An excellent day was had on Saturday. Thanks to Cave Troll, Brendan and Ben from SUSS, Mark Noble, Eddie Mason, Zak Williams and especially Bob Dearman, who proved to be a whirling dervish of cement!

Pictures at www.hucklow.com/MISC/SLOP_MOLL/.

The scaffold needs to come out next and then one more days worth should do it, John.
