Helwith Bridge, new owners

I was in the Helly at weekend and speaking to the new owners, Carol and Paul. 

They are keen for the pub to regain its reputation as a great cavers pub.

What makes a great pub?  :-\

They have, I think, made a good start by reducing the price of beer and increasing the range. they have also stocked up with some interesting whiskeys.

Any ideas will be passed on to them.

No ideas to put forward, unless you count a decent selection of well kept ale at a reasonable price being an idea (sounds like they've done that already though, to be put to the test no doubt.) Or having a good fire going in cold weather - the number of times I've wandered in to a pub after a cold trip on a cold day and found no fire, disheartening! The ones that do have fires roaring are etched in the brain, a decent pint and a warm fire to warm up, hard to beat.

Other than that, great to hear they want to make it a great cavers pub!

The new owners seem very pleasant and laid back;  nothing much has changed.
I think the DJ's box has gone. 
They have a very friendly small dog that likes attention.

Friday the place was a little empty, but there were not so many people at YSS. 
Saturday cant comment as we headed out for a booked meal, as we had understood their kitchen is being renovated.  Seems food is available but limited menu while they sort out electricians etc.

Sorry, I don't lnow about breakfast, but evening meals are absolutely fine - especially the pizzas!
