I expect I'm being stupid...probably...but I am confused.

Since the new look forum I haven't been able to tell when separate posts in a topic are new. They used to have a little orange thing in the top left corner, so you could quickly see where you had read down to...

...i know that new topics have a little blue 'new' sign by them but there doesn't seem to be a similar thing in separate posts...

...have I missed something? I used to find this function helpful... :(

I just constantly use the "show unread topics since last visit"

That just shows me anything that I havent read yet (new topics and replies to topics) - then at the end of my day - If there are topics Im not bothered about - I use the "Mark all topics read" feature - Giving me a fresh start next time.

I agree though - Its not as obvious as the last style. (but is much more resiliant to hacker attacks - hence the change.

"Show unread posts since last visit" gives you all the topics which have posts you haven't read, but it's still up to you to find those posts.

It's OK if you read regularly - you just click on to the last page and read the posts marked 'today'.

But if you read less frequently it's more difficult - you have to either remember when you last logged on or look for posts you don't recgonise.

But it's not a major trouble . we're not that busy. And if this is less hackable than the previous, then I'm willing to put up with some inconvience.

At any time..
Click on the 'uk Caving' just below the 'home' tab.
This brings you back to the 'front page' from wherever you might have been and refreshes the whole thing.
Any forums with new posts (e.g. 'Equipment') have a deep blue thingy.
Click on that forum.
Any topics in the forum with new posts have a little blue thingy saying 'new'.
Click on the little blue thingy and it takes you straught to the new posts.
Great.  :)
It works for me.
Very useful if you have been logged on for a while, but left the forum to actually do some work  or whatever...

:) :spank:

ok thanks - that answers my question - I'm not being stupid - it's not there anymore :)

I agree though it's not difficult just to read the ones that say today or yesterday - and yes i do usually read it that frequently for that to work :)

and i definately agree that anything that makes it less hackable is a good thing :) Well done

Do you mean you can't see this link?

Show unread posts since last visit.

It should be just right of your avatar at the top of the page.

When you click that it gives you a list of all topics that have changed since you last visited.

On the far right of this page is a column titled "last post".

Click the icon on the right hand side of this column and it will take you to the first post that you haven't read yet, you don't need to find the post manually.

It's the little orange blob that used to appear at the top of new replies inside the unread topics that I now miss. It made it easier to see at a glance which replies I hadn't already read...but it's not that much of an inconvenience :D

edit - just re-read your reply - that sounds like a useful function - the last post thing - that's what i wanted :)

edit 2 - just had a play - i think clicking last post literally sends you to the last post of the section - not the oldest unread one...however, if you actually click on the blue 'new' sign, this does send you direct to the reply that you have not yet read!! Yippeee :)
