    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

How to revise when all you can think of is caving??

As like most uni students at this time, i have exams coming up, lots of them, all of which i could well fail due to doing too much caving last year (if there is such a thing?) and no work. So i've decided now is a good time to actually look at my work.

The dilema is that after 5 mins sat down i'm starring out the window thinking of caving (i'm sure many of you students have been doing the same), and it's only after 2 hours that i realise i've done no work!

So, i have come up with three plans, and need to decide which is best for me at this point in my life;

a) :p Sod work. Caving is the most important thing right now. (v tempting)
b) :bash: Sod sleep. Work all day, cave all night.
c) Sod caving. Until there are no exams, then hardcore it to catch up.

What do you reckon from your point of view? And to all those students out there how do you guys cope?

Ah - an age old dilema.

Should launch into some 'Yoda' style wise man speech. But Im not that literate

For me it was Climbing climbing climbing.

Its just one of lifes little tests. My dad used to say - "work hard - play hard, thats what university lifes all about son"
Easy to say - but he was right.
So time to re-address the balance. Revise like f*** I say. So long as you scrape through em. Last thing you want is resits, They'll just hang over you for another few months. Get em nailed - then you can relax and really enjoy your caving rather that constantly worrying and feeling guilty that you should be home working.

Either that or completely bag uni off. No point being there if your not going to get a qualification at the end (cause you spent all your time caving).
On the other hand - dont be in too much of a rush to join the real world - I get 28 days hol a year - and thats considered good compared to most office jobs.
Wanna be me?

personally its only a couple of weeks and your body could probably do with the break ... if you have a girlfriend she will take up more time.

Go on for a couple of weeks stop caving. stop clubbing till 4am the day before an exam. stop going on those photo trips and try and pass your degree.

apart from anythign else when i was sitting my exams i was paranoid that i'd pull something climbing and not be able to write.

Sam's right about the holiday, i get 20 days :) whoooo :(

Probably worth revising hard and caving hard after exams are done. However, I have always caved during exam periods and haven't needed to resit yet.................

Have fun down Speedwell on Saturday.

I do but only with useful topics that may increase the efficiency of my intense revision program.

As for...

When the only acheivement is perfection, dont stop until perfection is acheived.
And yes, we have finished. Going elswhere tomorrow. Of course, still in Peak Cavern!

All my finals were crammed 2 a day into 2 weeks. I went caving in South Wales for the middle weekend and it was a brilliant rest. I did take some revision, but I didn't actually get to read it. I left that for late Sunday night on my return. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are confident on the Monday morning exam though.

1) and why did you go back down on sunday? was it because you had a small problem with a rope on saturday?
2) why are you posting on here? didn't your girlfriend get back yesterday?

Na, he's replying to me, he came down TITAN on Sat with us. There's a lot of rope in that place! Quite unsurprisingly!

Ah, many comiserations. I know the feeling well, you should have chosen a degree with no exams till june!
I always find i can only concentrate on revising when the exams are so close im constantly crapping my pants- so if youre not at that stage yet- get caving. Obviously every time you go you'll get back and see your pile of work, crap your pants a bit more and then go caving again- even though you know you shouldn't. Eventually you get so scxared you sit down and try hard to revise, but instead just read guidebooks (after all, your notes are on the desk too so it counts, right?) and plan some mint trips to do after your exams. Finally your shittting it so much you even hide the guidebooks from yourself, realise the exams are only a week or two away, that theyre bloody important, that your an idiot for not revising earlier and, finally, revise like you never revised before.
Next you scrape a pass, get fall over drunk and spent a day asleep (wise to avoid caving or climbing for this day- it just dont work!).
Then go...

caving.

Happy days!

only problem with that is that as we are already in the exam period, i'm guessing Rob's exams are about a week away already...i know mine are!

I'm glad you started this topic rob.
Just as my mind started to wonder on to caving after hour upon hour of revision.
I though I look at the forum and the first thing i come across is loadsa people telling me to get back to work.

Thankfully all my exams finish in 12 days, 15hrs, 6 mins and 3 seconds (not that I'm counting)so I get a whole week before term to see to my cravings.
