Illusion Pot

I was thinking of having a trip down there on Sunday. Given that the weather forecast shows heavy showers today turning into light rain over the weekend, does anybody know how quickly the ducky/sumpy bit takes to become impassable and how long it takes to clear afterwards?

How stable does the weather need to be?

Thanks

Bit of a tricky question as it would vary considerably with ground conditions, amount/length of rain falling etc etc..

Also if the weather has been fairly bad then it does flood in other sections too.

I hope you wernt down there after 5pm on Saturday because it really chucked it down at least it did near Ingleton, it just shows you cant always rely on weather reports that say only light rain.

We managed a trip down Illusion today (Sunday). Glorious weather when we went in. Pissing down with hailstones as we were coming up the entrance shaft, though this had cleared by the time we made it back to the car. The ducky/sumpy bit was actually completely dry - just very muddy instead. In fact there wasn't any noticeable amount of water on the Illusion side of the dam.

Really enjoyable trip. The pretties are superb and the whole place doesn't seem particularly well trodden.

How strange - we were there Saturday afternoon and it was case of 'Canal? What canal?'. It's only when you read the reports that you realise how flood prone it can be. Took lots of photies - cave needs some serious taping and thank god it is rarely visited!
