That's a bit harsh.
It's 15 years ago when he was banged up after the siege. He was 18.
His device for (more or less) keeping himself out of trouble since is imaginative and doesn't hurt anybody. It's also obviously sincere, otherwise he wouldn't be doing the dodgy dig that started this thread.
I'm not saying that at the moment he should be leading Scout caving trips, but I don't think he deserves to be insulted either.

There are a lot of lunatics in the caving world, always have been, some of them are celebrated as the more colourful characters in our sport, often very tenacious and talented with their digging.
The guy sounds like proper Eldon material, especially if, as someone suggested, he gets taken under someones wing and steered down the right path.... I mean hole!
