Am planning a holiday to Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and am wondering where the best surface karst can be found within a half-day of the road.  Tough one to search on the internet...

All countries are quite large, so it depends on your trip plan. What I know in Turkey is Manavgat valey with cave Altin Besik - accesed by car, Tinaztepe Magarasi, too accesed by car. Both are turist caves, but the cars around is interesting. There are large lakes which water penetrated 50-70 km to springs e.t.c. Mountain karst is really interesting, etc.

Roumania - karst of Muntii Apuseni - Sura Mare, Scarisoara, ...

Hungary - caves in Budapest - very interesting thermal karst, thermal pools in caves Miskolc-Tapolca, Agtelek-Josvafo on north, ...

There is a British caver who runs a guest house in Bulgaria - I think you can find his website by Googling on "The Rocking Chair". If this fails - and you'd like to follow this up - P.M. me and I'll sort it out.

Ditto, those are quite nice day trips with some interesting surface karst around (solution runnels etc). I think the Black sea coast stuff is fairly accessible but haven't been there.
