Lockdown Binge Watching

You don't want to breathe my fumes in, believe me.

It's funny though, I've realised over the last couple of years that I've now lost all sense of taste when it comes to TV. I can't take drama at all - if it has acting, or even the hint of a plot, I turn it off. It really pissed off a mate of mine, who is an actor, when I told him I wouldn't be able to catch his last (13-part!) series. Good grief. How much time have I got to waste? Another mate of mine works (or did!) as a set-builder/tech on Violent Shitness, everybody's favourite murder drama, which I think was on Series 47 or something by lockdown, but he's made a damn good living out of it.

It's weird, as I have racks of movies and classic comedy/music on tape and DVD, but I just can't be bothered anymore. I tried watching Raging Bull the other night, which I loved when it came out, but after ten minutes this time I thought: 'This guy's just a wanker, as are all of his mates', and turned it off - even though I knew it was a fantasy, I just didn't want that kind of guy in my flat, or my head these days.

So it's basically the news or documentaries only at the moment. Until midnight...

After a short deliberation since they were released (!) and having not got round to the books either, lockdown has provided so much dead time I am watching the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies.
I was warned not to watch them in a single sitting, but having started in December and only just half way through now there was no chance of that - what an epic.
I hope you're watching the extended versions! for the lockdown (OK, I didn't really need the excuse) I bought the extended editions of all six films on 4K Bluray discs. Wow! both picture and sound are gobsmackingly good.

Just got a book passed on to me.  Body in the Dales by JR Ellis. A murder mystery. Each chapter has a couplet.  First one says.
Unless tha?s careful on thi ways
Providence pot will end thi days.
Someone?s found a body in jingling Pot.  Not sure if it?s any good yet

I can?t seem to read anything remotely heavy.
I?ve binge watched as many caving you tube clips as possible like Derek Bristol.  Anyone watched any goodies?  The couple of Derbyshire ones posted on ukcaving was up with the best.
I have also watched backpacking trips by Norwegian explorer and myownfrontier.  Slow tv.

Daniel Valade has quite a few interesting youtube clips

The link is to a fairly primitive dig in the Igue Puech Youle. Unfortunately I think I read that they had a rather serious accident there a year or so back.

Currently watching the Queen's Gambit which has revived my love of chess!

The three BEST series I have binge-watched since the start of lockdown are: Killing Eve, The Last Kingdom and Outlander. All absolutely incredible.

Other decent ones are Money Heist, Stranger Things, Anne with an E, Fresh Meat, Vikings... the list goes on... it seems we've been in lockdown for a while...

I thought it was excellent. And yes, made me want to get the chess set out again.
Was after watching this that Jess bought me a chess set for my birthday last month and been playing every night since. Great series, thoroughly reccommend [emoji106]
