Don't forget that you can support Bubba directly - where it really helps! - by bunging a few quid into the bottomless slush pit which this forum represents - consider it a form of cave conservation!  (y)

and you get a really lovely email back that makes you feel all warm and squishy inside...

Apologies for my late input to this thread but I'm just back off me holidays.

Although the original date of the request for funding assistance thread is a year old, it has simply been put back to the top of the forum as a 'sticky' to re-iterate the request for this year - so yes, it is a new request.

In response to NigR's point regarding the 2 threads, firstly the one penned by bubba, the 'sticky' if you will, was simply a request for assistance with the funding of the forum, not a discussion topic- that is the reason that it is locked. It was not locked by a moderator in response to anything, if you will.  It was my decision to lock the thread in question by rhychydwr1. bubba has answered my reasons well already- there was no insult, however it had seemed to me that in addition to the issue relating to advertising on the wiki, many of this user's posts in response to info, comprised of a pre-written 'advert' for a book.

Just search eBay users of the same name to see similar if not the same entries. Tony, thanks for your donation, but you sholuld know the difference - perhaps we should levy a 'thread listing fee' and a 'final value fee' for all your posts?

On the one hand I applaud the effort in researching, writing, and publishing the books - but it has been clearly stated that we don't advertise on this forum, and want to keep it that way- so there has to be a line drawn with regard to moderating such posts. Adding the same entries to the wiki is a bit of a piss take, and bubba simply commented on this - maybe not in everyone's language of choice, but we all understand it- rather that than a discussion on whether he was right to do so.

Anyway, there you go- please feel free to comment. And, for more info on the books in question, here's a link: Tony Oldham' Books

This is Bubba's board. Whatever I think about the relative merits of  dickheads and censorship, when it comes down to it, Bubba makes the rules, and that's only fair because he does the hard work to keep this thing going. And a damned fine job he's making of it, as can be seen by the number of people who read and post regularly and the quality of the caving related threads.

Well, Howzat for brown nosing   :kiss2:

The second one was locked because somebody was just trying to be a smart arse.

Sorry bubba, but I don't think that's a good reason to lock a thread.

Personally I'd rather suffer a few dickheads than have censorship.

Just an opinion. Please don't ban me :)

I am inclined to agree.  This thread could have be sent to Idle Chat, where it would have quietly died.    :)
