Beware if you have a 4x4, or a camper van,  and you intend to drive inside the M25. From Jan 2012 you may be subject to the LEZ regulations.

If I want to take my  1996 Defender 110 CSW inside the M25 I will have to pay up to ?3000 to have a particulate filter added, or pay a daily LEZ charge of ?100 IN ADDITION to the congestion charge. The fine for not complying is  ?500 per day.

The installation has to be carried out by a TfL-approved installer and checked annually. You need to get tested at the VOSA MoT centre and 10 days later, you should be issued with a certificate allowing you to register your vehicle on TfL's database

A TfL spokesman said: "The changes are being introduced to deter the oldest and most polluting vehicles from driving in the capital. Poor air quality poses a serious health threat to Londoners, in particular younger and older people and those with underlying health problems.

.... and if I want to drive my smokey leaky old series two inside the M25 (heaven knows why) it'll cost me ?0

Which incidentally is how much the road tax duty is to! :D

Or buy a petrol powered vehicle. My 4.6 litre Range Rover and my 4.6 litre Series IIA are both exempt.  Twisted logic I say.

Chris.

some of our mine entrances are within the m25 and nowhere near a station.  some of the areas within the m25 can be very much like countryside.

glad to see from Peter's post that the cave rescue landy can still trundle about to the mines without getting charged
