Maenofferen Track Update

The slate road after the flat area has been REALLY dug over to make walking up a LOT harder obviously to deter people .  We went up today and there was a lot of activity in the area so took the footpath up and to be honest its a lot nicer way up. Go up to the winch and then up the right hand side of the winch back on to the road.

Given the amount of work Greaves have done on the track in the past couple of years after washouts I'm surprised they would dig it up ' to deter people'.
That said, looking at the incline and number of photos online there seems to be a large increase in people 'accidentally' going away from the footpath.

Is a major shame the attention the videos and photos of this place get the people making them , that?s what causes all this damage the the wrong sort view the product and want to go and the companies cover their back sides trying to deter people .

AFAIK thats what happened with Box, with so much damage to Jacks and Backdoor, and attacks on the military areas closure was felt to be the only option. The huge quantities of litter and spray paint that place has suffered luckily seems to be missing from Maen' Perhaps the chavs cant walk that far... yet

Yes your correct I agree box is the end outcome of what videos and photos cause splashed on the internet for views , when I was last in cath I didn?t even take a photo for myself because you cannot get 1 without the graff in it .I no many people who have litter picked the cath black horse side many times getting 60+ bags of rubbish  and taking them out sadly it becomes the same again . With how maenofferen is getting splashed around now days I fear it will become the same .

If plastic can end up in the marina trench this is easily possible .

Lets all stop making videos, taking pictures and also ban social media that would stop it .

Would certainly be a interesting poll to vote on . Is making videos especially with these click bait titles ?area 51? dancing with death ? most polluted river system ? is this Really causing the damage?  agreed photos of the places  does the same, pictures of box have always been around though since the videos started more and more damage has been done . Now many more videos of other places are appearing , I assume this would be the concern members of our community have that this degree of damage will spread  .

UPDATE Guys

The track was washed away as the reservoir had a big leak, just had a chat with a guy that lives in BF and he knows the mines in the area better than anybody.  So ILT was right  (y)

Personally I dont have any problem with photos and videos except if it?s a site known to be sensitive. But I hate the 'click bait' titles that give a wrong impression of our hobby as well as inferring that a particular site is an accident waiting to happen.

I wont start on what I think of bloody paint. What is it with this stuff anyway? Driving through Bristol is like driving through the Bronx.

If they get off on spraying this rubbish, I get off on wire brushing it off. I blitzed Cambrian a few weeks ago, bar a couple of arrows on the roof I couldn?t reach. If anyone has gone in there recently and noticed, yes it was me. ?Sandman? has gone from the dam as well as most other stuff.

I have heard about Box these days but haven?t been in for a year or two. Of course, proximity to the M4 seems to be part of the issue, further north you go, less likely to see paint.

Taken today during a sudden and very brief gap in weather, note what looks like a little snow in foreground is actually hail dropped sideways in previous 5 minutes. Definitely a wash out failure not purposeful damage (that is if I'm looking at same area of original post)

Yes that's it and I did correct myself after finding out it was water damage from a local mine enthusiast, it looks like you are stood exactly where I did my latest YT upload a few minutes ago LOL
