Just a thought, how about allowing access to the older newsletters online for everyone whilst restricting access to more recent issues for members..?

Neil - yes you can be a non diving member and / or just have a subscription to the NL. I can't remember how it works but take a look at the CDG website for details.

Graham; the contribution which cavers make by carrying gear is huge and you have a good point that maybe such folk deserve improved access to information subsequently. I'll PM you about this.

Good reply re. the CDG N/L, Pitlamp, and of course no-one was doubting your good intentions; but there's surely no real reason why moderate amounts of diving progress/news shouldn't come out on the forum. As for 'sherpa' access to CDG newsletters, great idea but difficult to police, as sherpas often operate in the dark, in every sense, and would be difficult to recognise if they applied.

Non-diving membership of the CDG is available to anyone (?29 if you are already a member of the BCA insurance scheme*) although a straight newsletter subscription is ?14 less as it does not include contributions to regional and national sections.  I would guess that non-divers have password access to noline back issues of the CDG NL.  I've got a complete hard copy set which was started when Pete Bolt did a reprint of issues 1-80.  If there was sufficient demand then maybe the same could be done again.  At the moment I'm working on an update of the Somerset Sump Index and also a reprint of the Log of the Wookey Hole Divers.

* includes ?10 regional sub and a ?4 central levy.
