New Book: Caves and Karst of the Yorkshire Dales

David, any idea when vol. 2 of this great book will be available?

The first chapters should be online towards the end of this year, I think. Tony's plan is to complete them during 2014 - but this depends on all the invited authors completing their manuscripts on time, obviously.

Price Differential:  The hardback was priced according to its intended market (naturally), which is libraries and academic institutions. For them ?70 is cheap.

Not these days it isn't.
And certainly not for caving club libraries it isn't.
How about a reduction for clubs which are BCRA members?

Well, I defer to our academic colleagues who advised on that point  :-\

However, I certainly take your point about caving club libraries.  As things stand at the moment, the ?56 special-offer price  will revert to ?70 on 1 July. However, BCRA members (including BCRA member clubs) are entitled to a 20% discount on "standard items", so it will still be available at ?56 to clubs after that date. Whether we can offer any further discount I dont know. I'll ask.

Whilst mentioning the BCRA discount... Its not been announced (cos I havent got around to it yet a.k.a. I forgot) but the 20% discount to BCRA individual members has now been extended to BCRA member clubs, and applies without limit on quantity. But of course, the 20% doesnt apply to the Dales Book's introductory offer price. :(

Thanks very much for all the feedback. Some comments...
I forgot to say... in case anyone is wondering, the softback is built using folded and stitched pages - i.e. its a "proper" binding, not just glue, and it wont (shouldnt) fall apart with use - although the cover may of course get scuffed. And to clarify a point for the technically-minded - the hardback has a curved spine like a proper hardback. Due to demand, we're going to have to make some hardbacks out of softbacks (as I alluded to in the previous message). The difference is that those will have square spines, cos theyre made from pre-cropped and stitched sets. So... if you want a "genuine" hardback you need to get your order in soon, to be sure of getting one of the original batch.

My copy has been used a great deal already and there's no sign at all of any binding failure.
