Newbie in Shropshire

Hi Folks,

I'm moving to Shropshire in the not too distant future and am plotting things to do to keep me busy!!  Where would be the best place / person to contact regarding getting underground in Telford/Wrekin, Welsh Border areas?  I have no gear at all, well a pair of wellies and an ecrin rock lid, so looking at fairly dry stuff to start with.  I know the gear is going to cost a bomb so will be wanting to build it up slowly.

I am a total rookie by the way, have been into Giants Hole as far as Garlands Pot but no SRT gear meant we couldn't go down, but I do have oodles of enthusiasm!!

Hi Lisa,

Shropshire Caving and mining Club we are active in the area - we are running the NAMHO conference in a few days time

#Contact Andy Wood the secretary he will sort you out - we have loads of club  gear ropes ladders etc, , we do regular training nights in Snailbeach Mine for SRT etc and we have loan sets of SRT gear and there is some second hand stuff available

Dudley would be a bit of a maul for me to start off with, I'm moving to Crudgington so the Sugar Beet Factory meeting sounds ideal!  That's if it's still there with the factory having been closed so long??

yes the sports and social club is still there the turning is just before the Duck and we have a regular programme of meets - there is no August meeting due to NAMHO

I'll be there for the next meeting.  No idea where the Duck is, not sure which direction I'll be coming at from Crudgington even, been a while since I went near the beet factory, but I'll figure it out.  Need to invest in a sat-nav anyway!!

You might find the meeting a bit boring and might be better off joining a training night or go alomng to the NAMHO conference there are easy underground trips and surface walks even if you don't to atteend talks

For directions  back down the A5233 at the Shawbirch Roundabout (Maxell Factory nearby) take 3rd exit along B5063 drive through Admaston over railbridge road bends sharp right the 1/2 mile under rail bridge 1/2 mile Ploughh in on right on left old demolished beet factory just before the Duck use the old turning where the Bett Lorries used to go in and off that is the entrance to the Socila Club you will see the bowling green in front of itwe meet in the Lounge 1st Friday of month except August because of NAMHO

Oh okay, that sounds like a plan.  Are the training nights running as usual with the conference being on? 

I'd love to go to the conference but I'm actually moving this weekend so it's going to be busy and expensive enough as it is.  :cautious:

Have you been in contact with Andy wood he will provide the info

the conference is on 29th July - 1st August I guess after that training will reseume, although one or two are going up to Nenthead

Training is usualy on wednesday nights
