CALL FOR ABSTRACTS (Deadline 10/1/15).
This conference will bring together an interdisciplinary group to discuss contaminant movement and public health issues associated with ground water in karst.
Presentations at the conference will consist of invited papers, contributed papers (both oral and poster), and ?snap talks? (5minute commentaries in a special session). Abstracts are required for all presentations except the snap talks. The abstracts will be printed with the program and distributed to all registrants at the opening of the conference. The conference papers will be published as a book after the conference.
GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACT CONTRIBUTORS.

Title, author(s), affiliation, postal address, e-mail address.
Up to 250-word summary of talk to be presented (this will be published in the conference program).
Preference for oral or poster presentation.
Intention to submit a full paper or only an extended abstract to the conference proceedings.
The deadline for 250-word abstracts is October 1, 2015. All abstracts will be considered by the Program
Committee. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their paper and format for their presentation by Oct. 15.
PROCEEDINGS (Post Meeting).
All authors are encouraged to contribute their paper for publication in a book to be published following the
conference. The objective of the book is to provide a definitive state-of-the-art concerning groundwater contamination in karst and its impacts on public health. Those who do not wish to include their paper in the book should provide an extended abstract so that their contribution to the conference will be preserved as part of a unified whole. Contributors of snap talks are invited to submit a short summary of their presentation. In addition to contributed papers, this proceedings volume will contain a synthesis of the meeting.

MEETING STRUCTURE. All talks - invited and contributed ? will take place in a single location to promote interaction among participants. In addition to the talks, there are opportunities to participate via short ?snap talks? and poster presentations. The moderated topical sessions will include:
State of knowledge regarding contaminants in karst
Tools for investigating contaminant transport
Specific contaminants and remediation
Exposure concentration and human health risk
Karst-related human health issues
Regulatory frameworks
MEETING VENUE. The meeting will be held at the Condado Plaza Hilton near Old San Juan and a short trip from the airport (12-15 min). A small public beach (Playita del Condado) adjacent to the hotel is known for snorkeling, quiet water, and access to the Condado Lagoon.
REGISTRATION & LOGISTICS. The early meeting registration fee is $475 for professionals and $375 for students/K12 teachers by 11/15/2015. Registration includes the opening reception, coffee/tea breaks during the meeting, and the final night banquet. It also includes a mid-meeting field trip to learn about community involvement with the San Juan Bay Estuary Program.
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Condado Plaza Hilton from 1/27 to 1/30/15 at the rate of $189+tax/night for a double room. This group rate is good until 12/28/15. Please mention ?Karst Waters Institute? when you make your reservation.

DeepKarst 2016: deadline for papers is 15 September!
The deadline for papers for DeepKarst2016 is only 2 weeks away on 15 September 2015. Remember that certain papers from this conference will be selected for expansion and inclusion in the book Selected Hypogene Karst Regions and Caves of the World, which will be part of Springer Publisher?s new but internationally acclaimed ?Cave and Karst Systems of the World? series. NCKRI is organizing this conference, with the Karst Hydrogeology and Speleogenesis Commission of the International Union of Speleology, at NCKRI Headquarters in Carlsbad, New Mexico, on 11-14 April 2016. The conference is focused on hypogene karst, its origins, groundwater production, mineral and petroleum deposits, and management.

National Cave and Karst Management Symposium: deadline for papers extended

National Cave and Karst Management Symposium October 19-23, 2015
Cave City, Kentucky
We are now accepting papers for NCKMS 2015. The theme for the Symposium is "Hidden Landscapes ? Hidden Challenges", with particular emphasis on management issues related to human impact on karst. However, we encourage oral presentations and/ or poster submissions on all topics related to the management of caves and karst resources. The deadline for paper submission is September 7, 2015. The 21st Annual National Cave and Karst Management Symposium will be held in the heart of the southcentral Kentucky karst in the Mammoth Cave region of the state. The venue for NCKMS 2015 is the Cave City Convention Center located in Cave City, Kentucky, situated just minutes of off Interstate I-65 and convenient to the international airports of Nashville, Tennessee (1.5 hours to the south) and Louisville, Kentucky (1.5 hours to the north). Since the early 1800s, Cave City has hosted visitors to Mammoth Cave National Park, which is a World Heritage Site, International Biosphere Reserve, and the second oldest tourist attraction in the United States with 53,000 acres of natural preserve and over 400 miles of mapped passageways...the longest cave system in the world. The Symposium is hosted by Cave Research Foundation, Mammoth Cave National Park, and Western Kentucky University.
As the theme for NCKMS 2015 is ?Hidden Landscapes-Hidden Challenges?, field trips will visit the surface and hidden landscapes of Mammoth Cave National Park and surrounding areas and will also feature field trips to Bowling Green, Kentucky to discuss the challenges of urban development on karst.
A selection of seven outstanding workshops will be offered on Monday, October 19, 2015. The workshops will provide hands-on experiences with the techniques and skills necessary for studying, monitoring, and managing cave systems and karst areas. The week after NCKMS 2015, Mammoth Cave and WKU?s Karst Field Studies Program will be offering a week-long course on cave management (October 26-30, 2015). The course can be taken as a workshop, for university credit (either graduate or undergraduate), or for Continuing Education credits. See the website for more information.

Karst, Groundwater Contamination & Public Health: New information and circular
Greetings,
We invite you to submit an abstract for the 2016 Conference: Karst, Groundwater Contamination & Public Health: Moving Beyond Case Studies. The purpose of this meeting is to bring together karst and public health scientists, regulators, and community groups to assess the current state of our knowledge and foster cross-pollination among the groups. We invite your involvement in this meeting and the important discussions on this topic.
To participate, please consider submitting an abstract for a talk, a poster, or a snap-talk. The attached Call-for-Abstracts provides the submission details along with planned topical areas. A list of confirmed speakers provides the range of disciplines that will be represented at the meeting.
The conference will be help in January 2016 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
