Notts Pot II

I have a permit for Notts Pot II coming up at the beginning of February but I haven't been there since it was first being shored up around 2 years ago. At that time we free climbed the entrance shaft using the scaffolding and ladders and general chimneying techniques, this proved to be quite fun on the descent but less fun on the return with a large gash to one hand, I fell over a boulder.
Does anyone know if the entrance pitch is now rigged as an SRT pitch or do you still free climb it, the same question applies to the shorter drops just after the bottom of the entrance?
Also does anyone know of a good description of the system and where I can find it?

Cheers

It's still a freeclimb, but last time I went (about 6 months ago), someone had left a rope on the bit where you put your feet in the concrete blocks and I found that made a big difference on the way back up. Might be worth taking a bit of tat just in case it isn't there any more.

I was down there just before Christmas. The shaft is very easy to descend. A couple of short ladders then you back and foot using the breeze blocks with holes in. More ladders lead down. There are a couple of easy free climbs. Nothing taxing for anyone of reasonable (average) ability. I was suprised how easy it was getting back up the breeze blocky bit - you can rest anytime just by leaning back against the wall.

Thanks for the help guys, sounds like it's the same as it was when I did it last.
Perhaps I should check my clubs website more often, I had no idea that RRCPC had section on Leck fell

Your club also has a library, which will contain NPC Journal 1987. This is the standard reference for the cave and includes a large scale pull out survey of the majority of the passages in Notts 2. The Red Nose website is very good for sections added since the main explorations. If you want your own copy I think the NPC still has a load left.

Quite a few of the regulars at the farm from your club know about it as well!

We have a photo at the Orpheus cottage of Si Brooks at the foot of a wet pitch just disconnecting his Stop from the rope. He has however a large, opened golf umbrella over his shoulder... it had been used on the approach to the cave and as the first pitch was wet he thought he may as well put it to good use.

It may not be a Petzl, but it is stylish and co-incidentally the yellow, red and blue panels on the umbrella match his caving outfit perfectly - which is MUCH more important than fending off falling sheep or rocks, don't you think?
