The number of octopus sightings has soared in the last few years - mainly by divers.  The population seems to be rising. Perhaps they are feeding on the crawfish whose population has similarly exploded after their overfishing 50 years ago. Despite diving in the UK for over 50 years my only sighting was one in Scotland a few years ago.
