Parys Mountain... Interesting in resuming underground mining

I'm sure the financial burden of placating the environmental lobby will ensure this never takes place.

Instead mineral extraction will take place elsewhere on the planet with the attendant environmental cost.

A bit like the Whitehaven coal mine.

Or is that a bit cynical...

Chris.

Probably not too cynical (in my opinion)

If we buy copper on the markets, likely it'll come from Chile or China (sorry graph above only to 2012, so China's increased share isn't obvious).

While I'm never suggesting we wreck the environment and we need to do things as cleanly as practical, it seems too often our politics is more about virtue-signalling than sensible environmental choices. And cutting off our nose to spite our face by encouraging extraction in developing nations who'll probably do it in an even more environmentally impacting manner. Out of sight... /Rant

Maybe we should step back from politics as it only divides us and see what/if underground mining at Parys happens

We and the World need copper especially with the advent of EV's. Why export all our jobs to other parts of the World? A environmentally sound mine operation can only be a good thing IMO.
Currently the stream fed from the old mines is a quite strong acid, Sulphuric/copper which runs to Amlwch, a nasty bit of pollution. A new operation has the potential to sort the problem out

A lot of us older watchers have seen many boosts of promotion at Parys.
Many sessions of investigation from drilling to full-scale mining.

Some fool investor comes forward with some money for trials and studies.
When the money runs out the project stalls again.

Usually, they manage to spend the investment money before they have to pay out for environmental issues.

In order to make the old adage come true, they must have a Cornishman at the bottom as they probably fulfill the other criterion ;)

In 1971 while working as a copper and gold prospector in North Wales for a large Canadian corporation I lived in the Prince Llew at Beddgelert. After dinner one evening I got chatting to a new guest who was just passing through for one night. He turned out to work for a diamond drilling company and had just finished running a drilling programme for a company looking to restart mining operations at Parys Mountain. Without mentioning my own job I socialised with him all evening, filling him up with excellent Robinson's beer and pumping him for information about the drilling programme. I appeared to have a weak bladder as I kept nipping off to the toilet - where I made notes and diagrams of what he told me.

The next day I proudly sent off a report to my employers London office.

A couple of days later my employer told me they had several weeks before purchased a large share in the company looking at Parys Mountain, so they already knew about the information I had carefully extracted by industrial espionage.

Needless to say, this plan to reopen Parys Mountain got no further than all the others.
