Petal chest harness

Whilst tightening my chest harness yesterday the buckle snapped!!!! Not ideal when I'd still got 2 pitches but managed to improvise. It's the male part of the buckle that has broken anyway I can fix it????? It's sewn in so would have to un pick it to replace but obviously that's dodgy!!!!

A chest harness only drags your Croll up the rope, it isn't load bearing, so the Torse IS a sort of 'wrap-around' design. It's easily adjustable so you can walk without looking like Quasimodo..... ;D

Same thing happened to me 5 years ago - torse snapped at the belt buckle,  just when I was starting the prussik up at the foot of Knotlow - only been used twice before then - h n h sent me a free replacement but never trusted it after that - got one of the serptantine ones that winds round the shoulders figure of eight style.

Unless you have harness that does not go above your hips (or your a really fat caver who doesnt have any) and you invert, then it is there to give you a littel bit of support to stop you from falling out  ;)

I recently changed my Fractio as it was worn out and I got an AlpDesign Compact from Inglesport,
It's by far the best setup for jugging I've ever had.

I've written a fuller review at http://jonathantompkins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/alpdesign-compact-caving-harness.html

I think it has been a common term in mountaineering/big wall aid climbing for a long time. Here they use two handled ascenders that probably felt like holding two jugs (of the glass beverage holding variety before you start... ;) )
.. hence the name jugging.

Although... ascenders that feel like jugs..could be a market there :-\

Why not just make them jugs? you'd not have to worry about making it to the pub before closing then!

;D
