There is an extremely funny answer to your question (at least to those with a sense of humour), but I guess I would incur the wrath of those moderators who seem to be censoring such things recently....

eh

FFS, try us - We've not 'censored' anything on this site. (bites lip, tries to stem the red mist, I'm really really getting fed up of the constant sniping at the mods. especially when it starts coming from people I thought I respected).

To save Sam's sanity, can I just say (again):

disclaimer: This is a moderated forum, it's not a public service and doesn't purport to be any kind of such service, nor represent the UK caving community in any way.

We do try our best to moderate things fairly, remove the crap and keep thing interesting but it's not an easy job. Basically, you can't please everyone.

If you have complaints about particular incidents of moderation then please get in touch with any of the mods (Currently Me, SamT, Rhys, Paul, Cap 'n Chris) or an admin (me, thesiger, simon lee). Somebody will (eventually - we all have other jobs, etc) get back to you and explain.

This forum is a tricky one to moderate. There's a lot of good caving info mixed in with a lot of other frivolous stuff. Because the various UK caving communities are quite close-knit and have they're own respective in-jokes and characters, we often get things wrong. This is hard to avoid. Apart from Chris who is true Mendipite, the rest of us are Derbyshire based.

What we do try to clamp down on is drivel like that from Whitelackington. Sorry to curb you again Mick, but you really need your own blog for you rants.

We would love there to be more of a community feel to "idle chat" but it has to posts that are witty, interesting or original, not some of the mindless stuff that gets posted. Sorry if that seems elitist but imho it's just quality control.

Sorry but its completely serious. I've seen this technique used in the states. It relies on smooth rock but is very quick to rig and doens't involve drilling nasty bolt holes.

They use it on expedition caving in the Rockies.

use it as a deviation."

But Alas it is true?

I think it may be . Check out the other pages featuring work from the Federated Union of Cave Karst Studies.
And who said Canadians didn't have a sense of humour ;)

there must be a joke about suckers who fall for anything they see on the internet! Alternatively this could a new use for the sink plunger.
