Possibly Silly Yorkshire Weather question

I've not had time to read all of the stuff above but in case it helps, the effect of a given amount of rainfall on caves flooding in the Dales is dependent on several variables.  The state of "wetness" of the fells before a weather event is obviously significant - but the time of year is too.  At this time of year just a few millimetres can cause a dangerous underground flood whereas in summer I have known it put down an inch with no effect.  How the rain is distributed matters too (e.g. 10 mm in an hour or 10 mm over 24 hours).  Catchment aspect is important - e.g. rains driven onto Ingleborough by a south westerly wind will probably cause more problems at Gaping Gill than at Nick Pot.  Also be aware that, although the CDG visbot is very useful (and is qualified by cavers' own remarks) most cavers' rain gauges are not at high level where it really matters.

So trying to relate a rainfall amount to the actual underground conditions is tricky.  Best bet is to seek direct advice from experienced cavers who live in the area.
