That IS bad Bubba - most people are very imaginative and creative when writing their F.R. info, so as to appear that they have done something with their lives, or to prove they are sucessful, happy etc when half the time they are in dead end jobs (if they have one!) and are totally miserable in reality. I dont believe in much thats written on F.R.

Like peoples job descriptions get all hyped up on FR dont they? no one admits to being a housewife or a dustbinman, or a cleaner etc, they are all household management consultants, recycling facilitators, and cleanliness operatives etc

I deleted mine soon after I found out - mine had far too many details regarding my "party years"

About half the google hits for my name are actually me, and most of the others are some dude who races a Laverda bike.

But then, I do have an unusual surname.

A quite amusing thing to is to type www.insertyourname then .com or .co.uk etc. My name.com comes up with a fetish photography website!
My name is pretty common so if I do a google search I'm one of about five and half million hits. I thought I was more significant than that :shout: If i use my middle initial then I'm about fourth

great you do a google search on me and you come up with several pics of a woman who is topless with scar tissue, a naked ladies football team (or something) a pic of an audio tape, another interesting pic which i has already appeared on this forum, oh and a collection of ferrets. woopee!
So the prospective employer has you down as a
"ferret loving northern lass, who plays football in the nude and has the scars to prove it (and possibly taped the incident) "- who would give you a job?

I got them for all the family as .net, as the .com for my name had already gone to someone who makes dodgy films. I thought my children might appreciate it in the future - but then isn't it a bit pretentious like a personalised number plate?
I placed my CV on my .net website in the hope that employers might get a fairer view of me.

But, then you can't find me on the web anyway. Sharing my name with the christian names of a famous writer, (which I never knew until I did the search a few years ago, because he always went by the initials) means that I've never had the patience to scroll down the pages of references to find myself.

Have you tried a search with a minus sign followed by the most famous work of your author? That might get you a bit nearer the top. But you can't expect your future employer to do that - I think you're just going to have to change your name.

ang on... My real name is 'Deep Penetration'..

I just tried a google image search
not a good idea..

No, but seriously, even though i don't always use my real name when using forums and newsgroups, you don't have to be Sherlock Homes to find out my real name, and if a potential employer wants to do a google search on me, then let them.. I aint got anything to hide..

Tim.

The answer to all this paranoia is simple - find out who's interviewing you and then do a google search on them; when it comes to "any questions" just ask stuff like, "When you were doing the close up scenes in `Debbie Does Dallas', did you use a stand in?.... " etc.. Once the misunderstanding has been cleared up, you conclude with the interviewer that Google has been the cause of the embarrassment.

Personally, I have one username which I tend to use all over the place.

Googling my "firstname lastname" comes up with ~288,000 hits (both names are pretty common - not quite at 'John Smith' level, but not far off).

Anyone who knows me could presumably recognise my picture, and anyone who really wanted to find out my name should take under a minute if they're remotely internet-savvy.

Does
***** **********

Indeed. Pseudonyms are as much use to me in order to be reasonably distinct as for any reasons of obscurity, though I guess not being instantly findable from people who just know my name anyway (due to its extreme commonness) gives some defence against prosepective employers or suchlike snooping.

I only found this site recently, having just got access to the web etc.. At first sight it would apppear that nothing much is happening on this site or am I looking in the wrong place? Are these things just flashes in the pan and then game over?

Or perhaps, like me, you prefer actually going caving rather than nerding.

Couldn't resist it ... That comment and then 4,500 posts.  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
