Re-introduction

Hi all,

I've been a member on AditNow for a while but I've been inactive for various reasons, including work obligations, life events, and the mentals. The reason why I'm making a reintroduction is that I wanted to ask the community for some advice and pointers for getting back underground.

So since I last went underground I caught the dreaded covid plague, and it's rather kindly left me with the (seemingly) permanent effects. So 2.5 years later my fitness is ruined, and I suffer from various problems including two different types of chronic pain and debilitating fatigue, amongst other fun things. I don't want to get into any debates around covid, in anyway, shape, or form; but what I am asking for is advice on places that suitable for my new found abilities. I would like pointers on places aren't going to kill me off having to ascend 700ft to them before I've gone underground, and maybe don't have 900 internal inclines like Maenofferen and Cwmorthin. I can walk for up to 5 miles at a push (but fatigue kills me for days), I can climb where needed. I know this is likely to be a short list, but I'm desperate to make something of my time again now that work is likely to become part time because of my health.

I'm also going to be posting this on UCET, so apologies for members who frequent both. Cheers!

Good luck with getting back out there Xan! I guess you’re based in Wales, in which case I’m sure there are others more knowledgable than me to point you in the right direction. I’m a firm believer that getting out there (at the appropriate level) is the best therapy.

Bwlch y plwm, Pant-y-wrach, Cae Coch (can be tackled from the top except summer where brambles everywhere), Ratgoed, Bryneglwys, Prince Edward, Ogof Dulas, Wrysgan, Conglog, Gilfach, Pandora deep adit, Clogwyn y Fuwch, Drws y Coed (assorted small adits), Benallt Deep Adit across the valley.

Prince Edward has a fair hike, and Wrysgan a moderate climb. Always worth getting in touch with the Great Orme and Parys lot.

Parc Mine in the Gwydyr is a walk-in. And with an internal ladderway / short abseil down to floor 3 if you are up for it.

Parc is a good suggestion (adding the disclaimer about false floors and assuming your previous experience covers it), you can park in a nearby car park, gently amble to the F2 entrance and have a short wander about F2 and see how it goes. It'll get you underground again. Tediously mentioning false floors warning again, clip the ropes.

Forgot to mention, there is no official access to any of the Gwydyr mines at the moment, so one might incur the wrath of the Forestry Commission.

Chris.
